Sharpton apparently doesn't think Obama is black enough , that is, will work in the best interest of the black people. As the conversation at Saturday’s session shifted from health care to education to politics, it quickly went to Obama, who kicked off his presidential candidacy Saturday in Springfield, Ill. ...

| We saw a lot of racist tactics against Sharpe over the past Senate elections. It's strange to see the Democrats/liberals keep resorting to patronizing black politicians they disagree with. I'm not surprised for Sharpton though. If anything this just reaffirms my beliefs that he does more harm to the black community than good. Having a black president would be great for America and integration of blacks in the US. Sharpton has no chance of winning... especially with a better black candidate out there. I think that would be the reason he's patronizing Obama's color or loyalty to the black vote. If anything this again strengthens my support for Obama. If Sharpton sees him as a threat, I'm even more lined up for Obama. I wonder if this was the plan. | ||||

| It actually helps Obama's case in the white community that someone as far left and as incendiary as Sharpton will come out publicly against Obama. It will be more of a moderating force to suggest Obama is not some mutant alien nobody white can understand or relate to. I wonder what it will do for the black community should Obama receive the Democratic nomination down the line. I know race is still a huge issue for the lower class and simple economic index is...well you know. Will it mobilize enough of the black vote to get out, vote and make a difference though - even if it is for someone black, regardless of his ideology (does the lower class even have reasonable access to be informed about it? I'd say no). However I wonder how this will play out with Obama's rather explicit and uncontrollable wife (Heinz-Kerry anyone?) concerning his "blackness" and how being black will be used by opposing sides in his candidacy. Personally I don't care he's black, I support hardly any of his ideology and find parts of his personal life rather alarming and extremely suspect and would not want his foreign policy representing my and other American interests abroad. | ||||

| What's funny to me is how in the past, if you were even 1% black, you were considered "black" and treated as such.. Now, if you don't grow up in the "black experience," you're simply not black enough for these people who base their careers on their race and nothing more. There was a lady on NPR saying how he wasn't really black like her and shouldn't be called black because of where he grew up.. she also said it was racist for white people to point to him as evidence of moving forward in terms of not being racist. It's really all a bunch of bullshit. | ||||

| I agree. I took a course on the "Psychology of the black experience." It was all a bunch of a bullshit as well. The only way to truly integrate is to stop isolating yourself. Sharpton needs to understand that. It can't be an "us" vs "them" game. That's not the way to accomplish what Sharpton sets out to do. | ||||
