Quinnipiac: Lamont takes lead over Lieberman in Dem Primary (51-47)

In the Connecticut U.S. Senate race, Ned Lamont (D) has surged ahead of Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) and now holds a razor-thin 51% to 47% lead among likely Democratic primary voters, according to a new Quinnipiac poll.

In possible general election matchups:
Lieberman defeats Republican challenger Alan Schlesinger 68% to 15%
Lamont beats Schlesinger 45% to 22%, with 24% undecided
Running as an independent, Lieberman gets 51%, to 27% for Lamont and 9% for Schlesinger.
Says pollster Douglas Schwartz: "Lamont is up, while Lieberman's Democratic support is dropping. More Democrats have a favorable opinion of Lamont, who was largely unknown last month, and see him as an acceptable alternative to Lieberman. But Lieberman’s strength among Republicans and independents gives him the lead in a three-way matchup in November."

I am a huge Lamont fan and since a win would be a huge victory for the DailyKos crowd, I am excited enough to make my own thread about it and leave it out of my Senate elections page

Lieberman and Ben Nelson just need to quit. They are two "democrats" that should just move on.

Fantastic news. Every incumbent should have to justify their continued presence as a representitive of their state in Congress every election cycle.

The re-election rate for incumbents is way too high right now, and it's not because they're all doing a fantastic job.

I think that whatever happens, Lieberman will retain his seat... even if it's as an Independent. What will be interesting though, is seeing the Democrats split on whether or not they support Lieberman as an Independent, or Lamont as perhaps an unwelcomed Democrat

Rasmussen's new numbers:

New Rasmussen Reports poll shows Ned Lamont (D) beating Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) in the primary, 51% to 41%. Here’s the stunning finding: In the general election, Lieberman and Lamont are tied with 40% with Alan Schlesinger (R) trailing behind with 13%.

10 point primary lead going in to an atmosphere where only die-hards...aka Lamont supporters, are going to vote

And now Lamont is also tied in the general election, which you KNOW is going to get a boost from the Dem Primary win...then he'll be in the lead overall! Shit the power of DailyKos is amazing

I can't imagine what Lieberman is thinking behind closed doors. He's gone from being the VP candidate (and winner depending who you ask) to being completely shunned for his support of Bush and his policies

I wonder if he wishes he could take it back now

Fucker Lieberman, but from the polls I've seen, he'd still win if he ran as an independent, which he says he will.

I think his poll just showed that they're tied in a 3 way election
