come and see pics from my office building...

here you go... views from my office building in downtown Miami. why? well, there is no one here and I'm bored.

Intercontinental Hotel

Bayfront Park and Bayside Marina and shops

AAA Arena and Bayside again

Building across the street and some construction...

view from my office window. (I know, I'd rather sit on the ocean side)

some more construction... anyone want a new condo? they're gonna be cheap!

Brickell Key (very posh man-made island, crazy expensive...)

edit: excuse the glare in some of the pics, it's early morning, hard to get a good shot from behind the glass.

Yeah it's 10 here when I woke up, but I'm still planning on cooking steaks on the grill. If that's possible. I need some meat.

Greensboro is getting so much bigger. Fed Ex is coming, Honda Jet is building a plant here, and now I believe Google is thinking about creating an office here too.

I hate all the construction and traffic that comes with it, even if the economic expansion is good for the city

look, you're a nice guy, but your town sucks, I lived there, I know. Greensboro is nothing but a truck stop between Raleigh and Charlotte. no offense to you of course, it just wasn't for me.

anyway, the day started out at a brisk 42 degrees, but we happily made it up to about 68. I love Florida.

It completely depends what you're looking for in a place to live. I have no idea what would compel someone to want to live in a huge city and have to deal with a swarm of people and traffic, etc.. all the run down, high crime areas, etc..

I wish Greensboro were smaller than it is becoming

the reason that its expensive to live in big cities is because of demand. a lot of people want to live here. why? well, it's nice to live here! there are a multitude of things to do, not to mention nightlife and good dining. none of which Greensboro has. this past weekend they had an international boat show here, if youre in to that, if not, next weekend there is a FoodTV sponsored food and wine festival on South Beach, etc... there is always something going on, no matter what you like.

For 3 years we struggled to find a decent place to eat over there. yeah, there are a couple places tucked away, but overall, unless you like the Golden Corral, the selection sucks. shit, we found ourselves driving almost an hour east, to raliegh/durham just to eat at Maggiano's or something resembling a real restaurant at that South Point mall.

you want Greensboro to be smaller??!! yikes, you already have to combine 3 cities, Greensboro, HighPoint and Winston-Salem, just to get on a map and call it "The Triad".

so yeah, traffic is a bitch some days, so be it, it's the price you pay to live in good weather and an entertaining place. as far as crime, I'm sure there is more reported crime here than there, but you have to take that in context and proportions to the population. I have yet to be a victim of any crime in South Florida. I have one friend that had his house broken in too years ago. Thats the only incident I remember having first hand knowledge about. Crime is not exactly rampant here. Don't watch so much TV... we don't live in an episode of CSI Miami.

Like I said, it's all about what you really want in a city and place you live. I'm not talking about Miami specifically, just big cities in general. I lived in Dallas until moving here in 2000, and I don't miss any of the perks compared to the downsides. I think Dallas has nearly 4 times as many people as Miami too, so maybe that has something to do with it.

I really don't care about the few things big cities have to offer compared to here, but I do enjoy the stuff this place offers that huge cities don't

When did you live here? Like, recently? You make it sound like it has three stoplights and one drive in movie theatre or something

I just got back from there 6 months ago. lived there for 3 yrs while my wife got an MBA at UNC Chapel Hill. We lived just outside of Greensboro, in McLeansville, that place is an armpit. She works for Amex, they have a center over by the airport off of Bryan Blvd. anyway, yeah, we pretty much hated every minute of it. people kept telling us to wait, we'll get used to it and will be better... it never happened. I guess the best part of it all was the light traffic and the weather. the change of seasons was nice to look at, but the allergies killed me.

typical North Carolinian... you guys hardly leave your county. take 70 east, out of greensboro, just about 10min out, you'll come past a golf course on your right, on your way to burlington. the corner where that golf course is, is birch creek rd., make a left and I used to live about 1/4 mi up the road. there are some new houses back there.

here it is: Google Maps
