| If you think the fanatical Christians own our Government? Spies to snoop on unmarried lovers | | The Australian Spies to snoop on unmarried lovers
The Terengganu State Government plans to enlist the part-time spies to look out for un-Islamic behaviour, such as unmarried couples kissing or holding hands, the Star daily newspaper said. "Some of these 'spies' could be waitresses or even janitors at hotels acting as auxiliary undercover agents for our religious department," the head of the State Government's Islamic and Welfare Committee, Rosol Wahid, was quoted as saying. "Accurate details are required for the enforcement officers to act, otherwise they could be pouncing on married couples." Last October, religious police in another part of this mainly Muslim country caused an outcry when they mistakenly raided the rented holiday apartment of a Christian American couple on suspicion that they were unmarried Muslims in "close proximity". __________________________________________________ ________________ WOW! I would like to know more about what they actually do to the naughty offenders? I hope they don't cut things off!

| Has a bit of a Marxist ring to it; religion may be an essential element in this instance, but I'll bet the basic scenarion applies on a much wider scale. Basically good comrades minding everybody elses business after checking up on their own behavior. The word "reeducation" springs to mind as being appropriate to the story. goldenponderbob | ||||

| Religion should inspire people to better behavior, not force them with Nazi-Like Police State tactics. And yes, some people here in this country should take note. | ||||

| Irrelevant. Their actions do not excuse nor downplay the threats christian evangelists in this country pose to liberty. You can pretty much guarantee that evangelist US legislators would enact the same kinds of laws if they thought they could get them passed. The nanny-state puritanesque vice laws we have now are already bad enough. | ||||

I was responding to your implied meaning in the topic. That implication being: what christian evangelists do here is not a real threat to liberty because, in <land abc>, <religious zealot def> does <xyz horrible things>. If this is not your intent, then why'd you make the post and label the subject as you did? This position is akin to a kid who was caught stealing a candy bar pointing to another kid and saying "well he stole SIX candy bars!" as a defense when neither action was acceptable. | ||||

| I don't know. In the Southern states things like blow-jobs and certain sexual positions were actually illegal until they were struck down as unconstitutional. And some Christian groups are striving to to turn America into a Christian theocracy. | ||||
