Lieberman to go Republican and change the balance of the Senate?

We all know Lieberman as the Democrat who supports the Iraqi war. Now with the Dems slow bleed and anti-funding agenda, Lieberman may hop the train to the GOP car.
Lieberman refuses to close door on switching parties - Boston.com

HARTFORD, Conn. --Sen. Joe Lieberman on Sunday repeated his pledge to caucus with Senate Democrats when the 110th Congress convenes in January, but refused to slam the door on possibly moving to the Republican side of the aisle.

The Democrats won control of the Senate with 51 seats. Lieberman and newly elected Bernie Sanders of Vermont are the Senate's only Independents.

A switch to the Republicans would bring the Senate to a 50-50 division, giving Republican Vice President Dick Cheney opportunities to break tie votes.
This is huge. Joey was constantly saying he's a Democrat through and true, blah blah blah.. He's no longer saying that. Now he's saying he won't talk on the change publicly, but if the Dems continue their anti-Iraq funding agenda there's the possibility he'd jump ship. Jumping ship would swing the balance of the Senate. Not that Joey is a very conservative to begin with and I don't think he would change his stances on issues... but it would interesting to see an R next to his name. Also, it would be a huge political statement. When Jeffords went Democrat nobody cared. He was a no name.. but Lieberman is wow. He's a huge asset to whatever party he's working for.

Everyone who supported Lamont fully expected Lieberman to do this type of thing.

I personally think the Democrats should have stripped him of his seniority within the caucus and said to hell with him the second he left the Democratic party to run as an Independent.

It's unfortunate that the party did not do more to actually elect a Democrat and replace Lieberman with someone like Lamont, now what they have is a liability who's giving cover to this President and his bucket loads of failed policy decisions.

Lieberman is a disgrace, he claims to be about certain values and yet every day he repeats the bullshit rhetoric we heard from Republicans not so long ago about the patriotism of those who disagree. I'd prefer to see him with an R next to his name, that way come re-election time we can fully link the Lieberman-supported Bush Administrations failures with him and his votes, like the "death to habeus" act, etc..

his current party label means NOTHING for 2007-2008
