Civilians may not be fighting, but in a war, they still have a great impact. Killing civilians is more of a psycological warfare. Sometimes in war you don't have to directly attack your enemy to do them harm.

Say you have a guy that hates you. He is too much of a wuss to come after you, so he starts harassing your woman. Of course this pisses you off and has a great affect on you, which is what he would want. Your SO is innocent, this isnt her fight, but it still causes psycological damage to you.

Its not a "fair" or "correct" way to fight. But it can be an affective way to inflict damage when you can't any other way. In America we are often taught to "fight like a man", you dont take cheap shots and you dont fight someone if they arent going to fight back. The rest of the world doesnt seem to be taught these things. Who looses out? Those sitting there getting blown up while saying "you shouldnt fight like that, thats terrorism", or those that will do whatever they need to do to win?

So you consider Israel a terrorist for launching missiles when they know for a fact they'll hit civilians?

Not just in this current conflict too, but assassinations they have carried out have had civilian collateral damage, or bulldozing houses, neighboorhoods, etc?

If that's the case, we're terrorists

Shouldn't the intent of the aggressor be at the heart of this?

Hezbollah aims to kill civilians - that is exactly what they want when they rackelessly launch rockets into Israel. Any military targets hit are the collateral damage.

Israel aims to kill military targets, but at times kills civilians.

Isn't that a sufficient distinction?

I would call them an islamic militia that uses terrorist like tactics. I do not know why it comes as a suprise. They do not have an airforce. They do not have things like advanced armor and tanks. They don't have attack helicopters.

They might be crazy but they aren't completely stupid. They are fighting israel the way that will have a best chance at winning.

I don't that that matters as much as what the end result is.

I always thought terrorism was a method. Launching rockets at each other is war, not terrorism... or so it seems to me

Nah. Al Qaeda is an example of a true terrorist organization. They hijack airplanes, crash them, target specifically civilians, and then go hide.

Isn't Hezballah doing pretty much the same though? They fire rockets, targetted to specifically hit civilians, then run and hide next to their own civilians?

Hezbollah supports the destruction of the state of Israel
Taken from same wiki link.

I think this pretty much answers it. Yes, anytime your entire philosophy is based on the destruction of a state and it's people, you either have power and are a tyrant (Hitler) or have no power and are a terrorist (Hezbollah).

beacuse its trendy to side with the underdog. and its also trendy to go against the bush adminstration, forgetting that every single session of congress and every single adminstration has adamently supported israel.

stop respecting their dispicable culture, its oppressive and goes against every liberal and progressive belief to try to justify organizations like hezbollah to defend themselves.

There is a difference between defending them and understanding them. I think they should be wiped out and I support what Israel is doing. Afterall, they captured 2 soldiers and are firing rockets. I would shoot back also.

But I understand why they are doing their tactics. They have no chance if they square off like a conventional army. It would be like the 13 colonies trying to defeat england by getting in formation and shooting.
