Charles Barkley: US needs to get out of Iraq

YouTube - Charles Barkley: US out of Iraq, NOW !!

Barkley has been an inspiration for many kids and has shown he is tougher than the most authoritarian conservative I have seen, yet he is hard on the GOP and our situation in Iraq

He could run for governor of Alabama! I'd support him, would you?

I don't know enough about Barkley to support him for any public office. However there have been several professional athletes turned politician in the past so why not if the people elect him? Couln't be any worse than actors/comedians that have or are running I suppose.

He's not a politician now, nor does he know anything about what's goin on. His opinion matters to this country as much as Thorgrim's.

Chuck probably knows about as much as everyone else on this board in regards to what is going on. I do agree his opinion matters as much as thorgrims, ballz2wallz, or dos equis as we are all american citizens and we have a right to those opinions. He is more famous so his opinion gets more play. The point I am trying to get at is his opinion is still important, just as everyone elses is, and shouldn't be simply disregarded because he is not a general or member of the administration. That is one of my primary problems with the current administration and republicans in general. If the president or vp doesn't say it, it doesn't mean shit, so we should just follow Bush with his failed policy because obviously Bush knows what he is talking about on the issue.

I agree, he isn't a good role model. Whether he knows what he's talking about or not, I'd chalk him up as knowing about as much as George Clooney, Susan Sarandon or the Dixie Chicks until he proves otherwise.

Exactly. Which is why I don't care.

If the president or vp doesn't say it, it doesn't mean shit, so we should just follow Bush with his failed policy because obviously Bush knows what he is talking about on the issue.
I disagree with this. It's more of an issue of credibility. Does he know what he's talking about? With regards to the war, nobody but those in charge know the truth. If Barkley wanted to say something about basketball, then fine, I'd listen. But he's talking about a war he's probably paid little attention to.

You take Charles Barkely at his word? Geez.

Charles Barkley Eyes Run For Governor, Basketball Hall-Of-Famer Considers 2010 Alabama Race, Saying GOP 'Lost Their Minds' - CBS News
Former basketball star Charles Barkley says he's switched political teams from Republican to Democrat and is again talking about running for governor in his home state, possibly in 2010.

Barkley continued to identify himself as a Republican until recently, when he switched parties. "I was a Republican until they lost their minds," he said earlier this month.

You can find dozens of quotes. Barkley isn't new to the political scene and he was for a very long time a Republican and a Republican contributor.

You trust CBS news over Charles Barkley? For Shame!

I trust Barkley, he probably never registered for either party, and I take him on his word on that note

I'm not trusting CBS news. I'm trusting the words that came out of Barkley's mouth and the donations that came out of his bank account.

As a long time Basketball Fan I always liked Barkley and wished he got that bling bling Champion Ring!

But I will wait for current NBA stars to tell me what to think about Iraq. He is just to old and out of the news. That comercial where the girl asks "Is he your father" is funny though!

The facts coexist. Thanks for proving my exact point that he was a Republican, and switched over.

Even the Democratic Underground knows Barkley was a Republican.. He admits it himself. I provided you with his own words.
Charles Barkley - "I was a Republican until they lost their minds" Ponders running

Here's more:
USATODAY.com - Barkley's off-color commentary is comic relief
On camera, Lazarus couldn't have predicted how far Barkley — a staunch Republican who votes the party line and maintains he'll run for governor in his birthplace of Alabama when he's 45 — would go in exercising his freedom of speech.
He was a Republican. Democrats hated him when he first started talking about politics.

My problem is finding someone with credibility. The generals in charge are there because they agree with the administration. Nearly every other general which differed in opinion has resigned or been fired. Every "predicition" and policy decision they have made has been wrong. They supposedly have all the information to make the right decisions and they haven't. So to me at this point, even Charles Barkley has just as valid opinion on Iraq as George Bush.
