A little more news about Al Gore... he buys his carbon offsets from a firm he is chairman of and is looking to make profits off of. In other words he's buying his carbon offsets from himself.... I mean buying carbon offsets isn't necessarily a bad thing, but not everyone can afford it so easily as if you run a firm that profits off it.

In all due respect to Gore, he set up the firm which is doing good for the enviornment. But he is essentially buying stock in his own company, and by parading around the world telling people to buy "carbon offsets" he is looking at making millions of dollars if this catches on.

If Gore's motivation in pushing Global Warming is so altruistic, was it really necessarily for the already wealthy Gore to establish a multi-million dollar corporation in England to cash in? And given the history of Gore and Knight, are these people we should trust to drive a re-vamping of the world economy at the same time they're lining their pockets because of our much smaller carbon footprints?

All you guys claiming Al Gore doesn't care if people conserve energy or not, he just cares if they buy Carbon Offsets.. maybe you're right!

He stands to make millions from it.

So let's get this straight. Al Gore sets up firms that invests in companies that stand to make huge profits from the economy going green. The firm makes profits off carbon offsets. He releases a movie scaring people into buying carbon offsets and changing economic policy to aid the companies that are sharing investments. Al Gore stands to get rich from scaring people into buying Carbon Offsets.

Now all of this can assume an evil-doing by Gore, which I don't believe exists. Yet I find it strange to see someone so strong for helping the environment doesn't care if people conserve energy or not. That doesn't strike anyone as... well STRANGE? It's all starting to make a little more sense now.

But how Gore buys his "carbon offsets," as revealed by The Tennessean raises serious questions. According to the newspaper's report, Gore buys his carbon offsets through Generation Investment Management:

Gore helped found Generation Investment Management, through which he and others pay for offsets. The firm invests the money in solar, wind and other projects that reduce energy consumption around the globe...

Gore is chairman of the firm and, presumably, draws an income or will make money as its investments prosper.

But he draws power from a source that uses renewable energy and they house otehr people there for living and working. It's not like it's just him and Tipper in that beast.

It's not about conserving, that means cutting back, it's more about doing what you can to promote green sources.

Think of it this way. Will green sources of electricity catch on faster if people are actually using it? Of course, it creates a demand which creates innovation. He's using these sources and contributing to the market for it.

It's not power that needs to be conserved, there is a near infinite amount of that, it's the resources.

HOW can people be this clueless. He is *NOT* getting his power from a renewable resource. He is getting traded energy that is produced the same 90% of the rest of the country's is, carbon.

UGH.

Green Mountain Energy on your bill does not mean that is who made your power. They are a energy PRODUCTION company in the southwest of the country. Everywhere else, they are a TRADING AND BILLING company. Nothing more.

Why do I need to be a socialist for that statement. I have no problem with him using what he can afford. What I take issue with is PREACHING a lifestyle he isn't living.

What you are calling for is TOTAL radical conservation...a process that would make Gore unable to reach the audience he reaches...he's an international figure and a tireless worker...reaching his audience and offsetting his balance to not be carbon positive is something we should all admire him for...

Again, this isn't a difficult concept.

He can accomplish the EXACT SAME THINGS while living in a different way. Using less power or putting some panels on his room. Flying commercially. Driving a Prius.

Not a single one of these things would affect his ability to get the message out in reality.

Yes, give the Red Cross, and make presidential candidate Bob Dole Rich (circa 1996)

Both accusations are totally ridiculous, just because Elizabeth Dole recieved some sort of income from her enormous charity work and Gore does the same...does not have anything to do with their character...if anything this is another reason to praise Gore for have some role in setting up the best alternative energy investment company

even if global warming suddenly stopped tommorow, green and alternative energy would give us a huge edge in the market against middle eastern and international oil in general

Actually we pretty much leave Cheney alone for supporting a viciously anti-gay agenda while having a gay daughter he "loves"

Cheney doesn't go circling the globe rubbing it in everyone's face. This is absurd. Cheney typically says he loves his daughter, but supports the president, whether he agrees with the policies or not.

This is the second time you've brought up Dick Cheney and gays on subject matter of global warming. Running out of defenses for Gore's behavior that you have to stretch to Gore's gay daughter? Two wrongs make a right? What exactly is the point you're trying to make?

George Bush's oil policies get thrown in his face all the time. Cheney's ex-association with Haliburton gets thrown in his face all the time (even though he doesn't even profit from it). This technique is not partisan to one party, don't pretend it is.

Bob Dole didn't run around the world living a lifestyle that was against the agenda of the Red Cross either. Keep that in mind when attempting to make a comparison.

Well said, unfortunately most people dont really care, they blindly follow the man and take his word on the issue vs scientist A because A was paid by 'big evil oil" but gore is simply trying to make his own money, its ridiculous.

Green is new technology. It needs capital and investment. I have no problem with that. I am a capitalist. Just know when you are talking to a salesman before you buy the car.
