He can say he misspoke and apologize all he wants, it doesn't mean I'm wrong. It means he made the smart political move, which is exactly what I said he'd do.

They've been saying that for years and yet the situation gets continually worse.

I place more faith in the news reports about the situation than I do press conferences and propaganda.

It's only after they retire that they can finally speak the truth about what's going on, and I think we've seen that time and time again. They can't come out while they're actively in control and say "SHIT! ITS ALL GOIN TO HELL M8Y!"

The British generals certainly don't think it's going well.

They are pulling out and saying "100% is impossible. We are fine with 60%".

Isn't that but a matter of time? No one is talking about staying in there for years to come (which is what it will take). So if we pull out today or 18 months from now their lives will equally be "wasted" (if we take that logic) except that if we stay longer, more will die and isn't that morally reprehensible? To stay longer when we know we will pull out anyway without any measured success?

in the war) and the Iraqi government (those able to actually see the progress) all say it's going quite well "

Many soldiers who had their boots to the ground and came back say we are losing. Not to listen to them is a waste

Apology
Hot Air » Blog Archive » McCain apologizes for saying troops’ lives were “wasted”

Last evening, I referred to American casualties in Iraq as wasted. I should have used the word, sacrificed, as I have in the past. No one appreciates and honors more than I do the selfless patriotism of American servicemen and women in the Iraq War. We owe them a debt we can never fully repay. And America’s leaders owe them, as well as the American people, our best judgment and honest appraisal of the progress of the war, in which they continue to sacrifice.

So where are the people who went after Kerry, Biden and Obama after "mispeaking"?

Are you guys calling for McCains head over this, or is this excusable?

The excuse is he really doesn't mean it. I mean, he supported the surge, so him saying something like this is easily forgivable.

I'm sorry but we need to stop being afraid to discuss the various issues Iraq has because we're worried about political correctness or whatever. He's not wrong, and it's hard to hear, but it needs to be said because it's the truth.

There's a difference here in what was said and how it was said. This is comparable to Obama. Look up the reactions to that if you want to make an accurate comparison.

Obama didn't mispeak. Since when does the anti-war crowd misspeak when speaking out against the war?

It makes more sense to me to pay attention to raw numbers and statistics of the number of attacks, number of dead, and other assorted information than it does to the rhetoric of our generals who have tried to downplay how badly things have been going.

Yeah but you worship those same generals (because they are, in fact, the ones really over there) when they say they need more troops or more armor

And, quite frankly, the number of casualties are very low for a war. I don't see how that really is anything significant.

Or is it his "parrot mouth" getting him in trouble along with the inexperience?

I don't worship anyone. The difference with body armor is that there's other evidence to corroborate the information.. like, you know, troops saying they don't have it.

There's a difference between something like "Some troops do not have body armor." "Some vehicles do not have armor." "60 people died today in a car bomb attack on [city in Iraq]"

and something like Rumsfeld saying he thinks the situation is going splendidly and talking in circles.

I love how people go batshit if you say the troops lives are being wasted, but the people actually wasting the lives recieve a free pass to keep pumping bodies into the incinerator.

Don't forget Cheney saying the British leaving is just another sign of how well things are going.
