The New Dean Political Plan

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean has been meeting with world leaders to repair "the extraordinary damage" that the Bush administration has done to America's image and to prepare the way for a new Democratic president.

"I am trying to build relationships with other governments in preparation for a Democratic takeover," Dean told me. "I want to make clear that there is an opposition in America and that we are ready to take power and that when we do, we are going to have much better relationships with them."

In an hour-long interview at Democratic National Committee headquarters Tuesday, Dean also revealed that he has been quietly meeting with well-known Christian evangelical leaders in order to build new bridges between them and the Democratic Party.

"We're never going to convince them on civil rights for gay people or abortion rights," Dean said. "But we certainly can focus on the things that we both care about a lot: global warming, poverty and the materiality of our culture."
And, oh yeah, Dean could run for president again.

This kind of unelected diplomacy (or should I say groveling?) is usually reserved for Jesse Jackson so I guess the reverend has other plans? But the "preparation" almost smacks about what professional coaches must never do. Brag about how they are going to win! But let him have another day in the spotlight, even if it is a small one.

As for running for President again......please make it so!

I will take that as your honest impression. But diplomatic rules still apply. Dean does not represent the United States, not now or in the future. He should not act like he does. I don't think you would be so happy if the tables were turned and high level Republicans did this same sort of thing?

At least someone is reaching out and doing it because you know Bush never will. It is a way to bring together instead of divide. If any party did this much damage in their term I would hope someone would step up and be trying to mend something.

I don't have a lot of knowledge about this subject.

Is he not allowed to speak to world leaders as the head of a political party? Or is it just bad form.


I can't really say I care either way. The only way he would be undermining what the President is doing is if the President wanted these countries to hate us.


Any positive feelings we can rekindle with the rest of the world is a good thing. Don't you agree? And it's not like we have to worry about him giving anything away, He doesn't have the power to do so.

Bad form. He is not elected to anything. Even claiming he speaks for Democrats is off base.
