I'm sure they are quite pissed of at Hezbollah. As to why they fight, if they want to stop the rocket attacks, they can just stop attacking Hezbollah

Because Hezbollah rocket attacks and unprovoked cross-border kidnappings didn't start the war.

There are only two ways to stop Hezbollah from attacking Israel.

1) Destroy Israel.

2) Destroy Hezbollah.

Their spokespeople have said it themselves.

There has been a conflict for how long? So there is plently of provoking from both sides, at least in the eyes of the other.

Why was Hezbollah not constantly firing rockets for the last few years?

They didn't.

This war was started when Isreal invaded and captured Lebonese land circa 1967 -- what Hezbollah is asking for now is their land back.

the fact that wars are discussed in this jocular fashion pisses me off, ..., its not as if we're on the battlefield ourselves, ..., we've no need to protect ourselves from what we've seen/done

On the contrary, IMO, we should be 'forced' to 'realise' the actuality of the sutuation, to have empathy with those involved, ..., we need to lessen the distance between ourselves & what is taking place. To see war, death & suffering as some kind of fodder for 'witty', pointscoring oneupmanship style discussion is, IMO, evil

re: the earlier 'holy war' comment, ..., the holy motivation exists on both sides, afterall its the 'promised land' etc

I agree. The reality is that Americans are so comfortable with what's going on because we can sit in our comfy houses and are completely removed from the horrors of what's currently being inflicted upon the Lebanese people
