Scientist who believed global warming muzzled by Pres. Bush

So the scientist that claims he was muzzled by President Bush for his beliefs in global warming now admits that he had 1,400 interviews in recent years. That's quite a few interviews he did, even while being 'muzzled'. I wonder how many more he would have been able to do had Dubya not kept him under wraps?

James Hansen, director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, who argues global warming could be catastrophic, said NASA staffers denied his request to do a National Public Radio interview because they didn't want his message to get out.
But Republicans told him the hundreds of other interviews he did belie his broad claim he was being silenced.
"We have over 1,400 opportunities that you've availed yourself to, and yet you call it, you know, being stifled," said Rep. Darrell Issa, California Republican.
Being that this is an oft-cited example used by global warming proponents to prove the adminstration's conspiracy efforts to dimish global warming, perhaps it's now a time to reconsider the worth of this argument?

Is it possible for him to give interviews, without actually giving the information that he really belives?

Why would he do that? They didn't sit there with guns behind the cameras watching what he was saying.

He claims he was muzzled because they 'wouldn't allow him an NPR interview'.

There are many more articles addressing this issue. It is clear there is a tie there which is why 14 US senators called for investigations into it.

U.S. Senators Seek Investigation of Bush Attempts to Silence Scientists on Global Warming

"These scientists -- working nationwide in research centers in such places as Princeton, N.J., and Boulder, Colo. -- say they are required to clear all media requests with administration officials, something they did not have to do until the summer of 2004. Before then, point climate researchers -- unlike staff members in the Justice or State departments, which have long-standing policies restricting access to reporters -- were relatively free to discuss their findings without strict agency oversight."

getting 14 senators to agree on something is as difficult as merely pointing to either cash or votes...

proves absolutely nothing...

nor does getting people to whine about the administration...that is not even as difficult as shooting fish in a barrel...

it taes 1 day working with politicians to learn this...unfortunately, I work with a lot of them...(what I said is true of both sides of the fence)

Which is why the inspectors general at NASA and the U.S. Commerce Department have begun investigations to determine whether the Bush administration has tried to muzzle government scientists and to censor or alter their research on global warming. Formal investigations have begun to look into this matter further.

Not to be argumentative just pointing out a clarification. Yes it was democrats that prompted the request for investigation. However the investigation is done by the inspectors general who are operate as politically independent.

"The inspectors general, who operate independently, are looking into repeated allegations that political appointees have stopped climate researchers at NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from making their findings public."

You are correct, it's all political. However, the real science, non-disputable stuff, says GW is happening. The problem you'll see with the politics is when it interferes with the real science and tries to silence it. I have no problem with politics addressing the theories (GW a farce, GW is man made, etc.), but you cannot deny the earth has gotten warmer overall since temperatures have been recorded and it has sped up in the last 20 years. When politics interferes with that, because it doesn't work in their political agenda, we have a problem.

well, it depends upon your view of what "global warming" is...if you are referring to warming since 1850...I would agree...if you are saying unprecedented warming, and hottest ever, quite simply, that is ignoring the medieval warm period...

No, only referring to the globe warming over the last 150+ years. The "unprecedented warming" statements are theories and highly politicized.
