| The NRA definitely has a place in politics. Without it criminals might really be the only people with guns. That being said I quit the NRA long ago when they were fighting for "Teflon" bullets to stay legal. These were expensive bullets that could rip through body armor with no problems. I got calls at the house about it from the NRA and I actually argued with the last person about why I felt there was no place for them to be available legally. Shortly after I didn't renew my membership. I should probably rejoin though | ||||

| The minute the Congress takes up gun control legislation is the minute that they will lose the 2008 election cycle. And I think they know that. | ||||

| not to sidetrack this thread......... Really, I don't mean to sidetrack this thread. I have had somepeople tell me that the NRA is to gun rights what the ACLU is to free speech. They both do things viewed as outrageous by some at times. I own several guns myself and I hunt every year as do my teenage children. I did however allow my membership in the NRA to expire several years ago because among other things the teflon bullet issue mentioned above. The NRA made me feel for lack of a better word, uncomfortable. Again sorry for the detour from topic here. And I have to agree Thorgrim, he did more than apologize by anyones standards but still some want to say that's not enough after something like 40 years of supporting gun owners and some great articles by the way. | ||||

I would say your comment about the NRA "controlling" the GOP is an incorrect statement. They do have some influence, but complete control? Not hardly. | ||||

| they haven't accomplished anything since 1994, and the GOP could have done that job you didn't need the NRA | ||||
