.: U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works :: Press Room :.
Update: At 9:29AM ET Wednesday -- after the issue was raised by Fox News Channel -- former Vice President Gore's testimony was received by the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee. Gore's testimony was given to Committee members just one minute before his scheduled House appearance and mere hours before his scheduled Senate appearance.

Posted By Marc Morano – 8:08 PM ET – Marc_Morano@EPW.Senate.Gov

From behind the scenes on Capitol Hill: Former Vice President Al Gore, despite being given major preferential treatment, has violated the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee’s (EPW) hearing rules.

Gore first demanded to be granted an unprecedented 30 minute opening statement to the Senate EPW Committee for Wednesday’s (March 21) global warming hearing scheduled for 2:30 pm ET.

The GOP minority on the EPW committee agreed to the 30 minute opening statement.

But then Gore demanded a waiver of the EPW committee’s 48 hour rule that requires all witnesses before EPW to submit their testimony in advance. The GOP minority on the EPW committee then agreed to waive the 48 hour rule in favor of allowing Gore to submit his testimony 24 hours before the hearing.

But in a breaking news development on Capitol Hill -- the former Vice President has violated the new 24 hour deadline extension by failing to submit his testimony – even with the new time extension granted to Gore.

As of 8pm ET Tuesday evening, the testimony still has not been received by EPW, a clear violation of committee rules.

The word on Capitol Hill says not to expect Gore’s testimony to the Senate EPW committee until Wednesday (March 21) -- the day of the hearing.

It appears that Gore does not believe the same rules apply to him that apply to every other Senate EPW witness.

The question looms on Capitol Hill: Is Gore delaying the submission of his testimony until the very last moment because he fears it will give members of the EPW committee time to scrutinize it for accuracy?

Stay tuned…
He was not given a pass. In fact the EPW is pissed off! He turned the testimony in one minute before the hearing!

Why does none of this surprise me in the least. I knew today would be a circus and I was not disappointed!

I am sorry, but invited visitors should not act like they own the place.....

Didn't see that at all, I have no idea what you are talking about except a press release by some junior staffer

He turned it in. Late, but it's there. The world can breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Again, the RULE states that the presentation must be turned in 48 hours in advance. He requested 24 hours and republicans and democrats alike took him at his word and said "ok", 24 hours. He broke his word and the rules. Maybe that means nothing to you, but it shows some of his character to me.

Is this one thing a HUGE deal? No. But when you add up all the things he does; lies, wastes energy, gives false information, it tells you what kind of person he really is.

And I'll even go so far as this. He might be a GREAT person. I'm sure he is an excellent husband and father. But it seems he is so passionate about his GW stuff that he is willing to tell half truths, lie, exaggerate, and waste LOTS of energy himself just so he can get the story out that he feels needs to be told. Which isn't such a good thing.

Was this post better mods!? I'll try harder today to be civil and still get my point across

I don't hate him. And I thought he was gorgeous with a beard

I just think his passion is blinding him from some truths and common sense. This forum is full of facts that counter what he says. And sticking with this thread, we see he isn't worried about lying since lied to the committee asking for 24 hours before turning in his presentation and then not giving it to them until he walked in.

He asked for a waiver of the 48 hours, I don't think he said "oh please, 24 hours then itll be def in..."

Really, thats all you got...pretty weak

Again, just admit you'll never like the guy and you can't stand all the praise he got yesterday and be over with it

It's ok you don't have any cause, sometimes people just don't like other people

Incorrect. Rules state 48 hours before the presentation that presentation must be submitted for review. He requested 24 hours (one day less) and was given approval of that request in good faith. So he had to turn in his presentation 24 hours before giving it. He didn't, he gave it to them when he showed up for the meeting.

Again, not a big deal in itself, but a lie is a lie. He asked for and received permission to give the documents one day in advance. He didn't do that. He failed in his end of the promise. He failed in following the rules that everyone else must obey. He lied and that might show some of his true character.

Considering how Inhofe talked over him, like Barton in the House had done, and tried to refuse him a time to answer...both of which, violate the rules despite promises to treat him fairly

Is there a non-GOP link where Gore expressly promises to get it in by 24 hours? It looks more like he wanted a smaller waiver, and the GOP said "ok not 48 but 24 hours" but the GOP doesn't run anything, the senate committee can make its own rules, its not in the constitution

In my opinion, he wanted to change his opening statement depending on how the House meeting went, little chanages here and there to better suit what the GOP was throwing at him, sounds real evil to me...
