If burning of american flags is freedom of speech

What is burning American soldiers in an effigy at a peace rally?

Seems sick to me. Where's the peace?

bringing the soldiers into this like it's their fault is not cool. how can they call that a "peace rally"?

sort of reminds me of this actually:

you did not just compare a rabid anti-war protest burning an effigy to hanging blacks, did you?

i said it reminded me of it because it does.

burning an effigy of a soldier should not be an anti-war protest. it just doesn't seem right to me. the soldiers are there regardless of their views on Iraq.

i said: it reminds me of it. cause it does.

when I first saw those pics, the civil rights hangings came into my mind. hence, it reminded me of it.

i didn't say they were the same thing.

I'm thankful we live in a country where people have the right to do things like this even if the rest of us think it's in horrible taste and they're a bunch of morons

If they attempted to do that off a college campus there would have been a very good chance of riots. That's a disgrace.

It's amazing how they're calling it a peace rally, yet they're burning substitutes for human beings. Morons. College Idealism at its finest.

I know quite a few people who would have given them "attention" if they watched them burn "troops" like that.

it's one thing to make effigies of the people in power who make the decisions. I actually saw a war protest in London once, with effigies of Bush and Blair, but the soldiers??? how do they have any choice in the matter?

it's pure ignorance.

I agree. I don't mind so much Bush or Blair. They're specific people, burn them all you want and I'd probably laugh. But, when you use the troops as your symbol you are stereotyping all troops current and present. That's just wrong.

you think someone who has no real world experience and gets his/her information mostly from academics is a good person to ask about what's going on in the world and why?
