Gore's house also gets most of its energy from "green" sources such as wind or water power. Inhofe is a fucking freak. I would be embarassed if he was my senator. Damn near as bad as Ted Stevens.

This debate is just ridiculous. Warming is real and we need to do something about pollution. Gore asked us to take minor steps to reduce our energy use because if everyone does it, it will make a huge difference. His docudramamentary does sensationalize the issue a bit but he is still correct. His house is huge, but he is still right.

He gets most of his energy from "green" sources? Then why does his METER read that he's consuming 20x the national average?

My parents live down the street from guys who installed a windmill. They put power back on the grid some months, depending on the weather and their usage. If they use exactly what the windmill produces then their meter doesn't move. Gore consumed 22,619 kWh in August... so his meter moved, so he's NOT getting energy from green sources like you're saying.

So, if he's paying $30k / year (link) it's because he's drawing that much off the grid.

So if you get power from a hydro electric plant, you dont pay for it? Because thats news to me. If you buy electricity from a wind farm you dont pay for it?

He uses electricity but he pays more for the shit he uses because it comes from some other place than a coal power plant.

ahh, I get it now... he uses 20x the energy I do but it's ok because his power came from dams and windmills.

I don't have that option so my power comes from coal plants. Maybe if Gore wasn't using 20x what I use then some of the power he's using could come to me and some of the coal that's burned to keep me warm and lit wouldn't need to be burned.

That's a good point. Bush's ranch is off the power grid. You would think a man like Gore would attempt to do just as much for the environment. Bush built his home before running for president and did it because he wanted to. Gore has the means, he doesn't have the will or desire. That's the reality.

The first one to call hearings on global warming, fighting through the times when 99% of politicians said the earth wasn't getting warmer

He could find a cure for cancer and you'd go "yeah well, did he make it cheap?"

There's plenty he could do to earn my praise. For starters he could be honest about what he says and he could practice what he preaches. If he did that I'd praise him.

1) He has been honest, the moment the "house" story broke his staff gave a full explination that has remained solid to this day, and everyone knows he's been flying jets from his Senate days, to White House days, and post-White House days, that's not secret

2) It's making people aware, saying "IF this goes, X will happen" is not hysteria, its a warning...are you saying it can't happen? Are people too stupid to recognize the word "if"? He's never even said "I'd say its more than likely the WAG goes and sea levels rise 20 feet" he's always said it was just a possibility, and if it did happen over the next 10 years, he'd look like a moron for not pointing it out to us, after all he's the leader of a movement

3) "aimed at destroying the economy" he's starting a dialogue you make it sound like he's writing bills and legislation, his biggest goal is TO WORK WITH BUSINESS...businesses have made MILLIONS OF DOLLARS going green, and other Gore-promoted technology revitalize american industry and HELP the economy

It's narrow-minded thinking like that (not you in particular) that had conservatives pouting "lower MPG...thats going to DESTROY our automobile industry, and our economy, fuck that lets make a ton of money on SUVs"

Now look, Toyota is going hybrid and generally lower MPG and kicking our ass, if the natural market worked, the Japanese and Koreans are going to be selling all the cars in America thanks to conservative fear mongering about economic damage...and this isn't an isolated event, everyone was crying that the 93 tax raise was going to destroy the economy for the rest of the Clinton Presidency, well guess what the OPPOSITE happened

I am so tired of conservatives promising the economy is going to collapse if we do something smart and then they are completely wrong only to jump on the next thing and say "oh if we try to prevent ANY global warming problems we're hurting the US"

We wait long enough it's going to be China developing antiGW tech and selling it around the world while we sit here building jets

Way to selectively listen to what he's saying. Jeffrey Dahmer said everyone should brush three times/day and floss after meals. If we only listen to that part of what he said then I guess he's a good guy, huh?

I respect that thinking very much.......... the only problem I can see is what kind of control are you talking about?? I am not sure how controlling the masses plays into this? Personally, the changes that could happen are better efficient cars and products bought. You still have a choice on what you buy?
