| Inhofe quotes Gore: Are you ready to change the way you live? http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressRoom.PressReleases&Conte ntRecord_id=7616011f-802a-23ad-435e-887baa7069ca
Al Gore decided to not give EPW his testimony before appearing. This pissed off many of the EPW members and he was accused of "delaying the submission of his testimony until the very last moment because he fears it will give members of the EPW committee time to scrutinize it for accuracy" The Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee Inhofe was not amused. In fact, he decided to show Gore for what he was. He presented Gore with a clip from his own film: ![]() Are you ready to change the way you live? He asked Gore if he was ready to change the way he lives. Al Gore's energy use is 20x more than the average American. ![]() Inhofe decided to make Al Gore eat his own words. Al Gore keeps saying it's not a political issue, it's a moral and ethical issue. So Inhofe decided to put it to the test. He asked Gore if he would take a Personal Energy Ethics Pledge. The pledge states: ![]() Essentially he asks Gore to put his money where his mouth is. He told Gore that leaders on moral issues should lead by example. GORE REFUSED!!

| Inhofe's Opening Statement .: U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works :: Minority Page :. Thank you for holding this hearing, Madame Chairman, and to you also, Mr. Vice President, for agreeing to come before our Committee to testify about your perspectives. Your views are already known to many Americans, but today will allow us to engage in a dialogue which should be interesting. It is my perspective that your global warming alarmist pronouncements are now and have always been filled with inaccuracies and misleading statements. Many of the peer-reviewed studies published in such journals as Nature, Geophysical Research Letters, and Science are radically at odds with your claims. I do not have time to delve into each flaw with your movie, but I do want to touch on just 2. First, you have claimed that there is a “strong, new emerging consensus” linking global warming to an increase in hurricane intensity and duration. Yet last year, the World Meteorological Organization very clearly rejected this assertion, and other scientists agree. Secondly, you said that East Antarctica might melt and this could raise sea levels by 20 feet, so we’re all going to die. However, according to many scientists, Antarctica is gaining ice mass, not losing it. In a 2005 study published in Science a team of researchers led by Dr. Curt Davis found an overall gain in ice mass in Antarctica over a ten year period. And the public is catching on. Even the New York Times last week published an article about scientists, many of them your supporters, who say you have overstated your case on global warming — in fact, they warn that you may be hurting the so-called cause with your "alarmism." Given that, it is no wonder you have turned down the chance to debate the President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus. And now I understand a debate challenge has been issued by Lord Monckton of Benchley. Now there is a reason for this. When the debate is balanced, skeptics win, alarmists lose. In New York last week, for instance, a major debate took place to examine whether global warming is a crisis. Prior to the debate, the hand-wringers, the alarmists, in the audience outnumbered those who didn’t think it was a crisis 2 to 1. After the debate, the alarmists were outnumbered – a major turnaround in beliefs in a single night. That shift mirrors a larger one taking place in the scientific community. Claude Allegre, a French geophysicist – Nir Shaviv, an Israeli astrophysicist – and meteorologist Reid Bryson have converted from alarmists to believing that climate variability is largely natural. In short, the ranks of converted scientists are skyrocketing. Lastly, the cost: Global warming is now big business. Thousands of individuals and even some Fortune 100 companies stand to make tens of billions of dollars. I was on the floor opposing the ’93 Clinton-Gore tax increase of $32 billion, but the cost of Kyoto and other CO2 reduction schemes are estimated to be over $300 billion, ten times the cost of your ’93 tax increase. And who’s paying for it? Those on fixed incomes and the poor, who as a percent of their monthly budget spend five times more on energy than the average household. Largest tax increase in history – 10 times Clinton-Gore of ’93 and the poor pay for it… and the science isn’t there. We just can’t do that to America, Mr. Vice President… and we’re not gonna. | ||||

| When I watching it I saw them giving Gore all the time in the world to respond and limiting the GOP. But he was their guest speaker so I don't really have a problem with it. And I think that's what Inhofe was responding to. It was getting pretty absurd. Boxer was constantly granting Gore more and more time than he was allotted and preventing people from giving him hardball questions when they were supposed to be allowed to. It really was a circus. Gore didn't turn in his testimony so he couldn't be scrutinized and Boxer shielded him constantly throughout. It was getting absurd and I think Inhofe was getting pretty annoyed by it. | ||||

| It's a serious joke, Imhofe believes ALL global warming is a GIANT HOAX "satellite data, confirmed by NOAA balloon measurements, confirms that no meaningful warming has occurred over the last century." James M. Inhofe - U.S. Senator - Oklahoma In a 2006 interview with the Tulsa World newspaper, Inhofe compared environmentalists to Nazis. He said, "It kind of reminds... I could use the Third Reich, the Big Lie... You say something over and over and over and over again, and people will believe it, and that's their [the environmentalists'] strategy... A hot summer has nothing to do with global warming. Let's keep in mind it was just three weeks ago that people were saying, 'Wait a minute; it is unusually cool...." He then said, "Everything on which they [the environmentalists] based their story, in terms of the facts, has been refuted scientifically."[12] Inhofe had previously compared the Environmental Protection Agency to the Gestapo.[13] He had also made allegations that the Weather Channel is behind the alleged global warming hoax, so as to attract viewers.[14][15] Inhofe had previously claimed that Global Warming is "the second-largest hoax ever played on the American people, after the separation of church and state."[16] -wiki...the links are solid Now that we've established he has no idea what he is talking about (he couldn't even remember its west antartica not east antartica) and just hates global warming scientists with the passion of 1000 suns We get back to the house issue...which was beaten to death several times over...he runs several businesses and organizations out of his house, it is also a rather large estate, and he takes every measure possible to reduce his energy use and eliminate his carbon footprint This is just Gore hatred for no real reason, if you ever heard him speak he's always said we should move towards conservation and try to make a difference, he didn't say we should force people to turn off the lights when they leave the house or they pay a fine, you guys are acting like he's asking for fascist restrictions on your rights I've heard conservatives on here say they believe in GW, believe man has a role, and it could hurt the environment, but they're not sure how much...well hey if it could HURT OUR PLANET why aren't you all driving hybrids and reading with candle light? You hypocrits, JaJae ban them all! | ||||

| yeah, not sure you want to discuss the differences here...it is the issue that shoots the GW paranoia in the head... east =85% of area...roughly 90% of the Global ice...is expanding (complete concurence) and about Greenland... The last 3 studies have all predicted lower and lower loss of ice...with the last report saying...hmmm the two largest Glaciers in Greenland gained mass...yet they back off on that, as it is a small cycle size...yet the previous report, was lauded...yet had same cycle sample...nah, there is not double talk on these issues...nah...it is conclusive...it is concensus... and blathering about glaciers melting in himalayas is proof of global warming...except wait...they are expanding...but this too is proof of global warming...er wait...we didnt predict taht though...except until it happened... but we dont want to talk about the following 100 new glaciers in Colorado (USGS) Mt Shasta expands despite warming (USGS) Mt Baker Mt. Shasta Mcginnis in Alaska Nisqually Canada (Helm, and Place) Pakistan New Zealand glaciers expanding Norwegian glaciers expanding Ecuador South America glaciers expanding onn nearly every continent...hmmm oh but ignore the facts...lets run around and scream and holler... | ||||

| You have to forgive me if I'm wrong... (because I haven't paid much attention to Gore since he lost in 2000) But I don't think Gore has called for people to limit their energy consumption to what the average American uses. I don't think he has even asked people to make big changes in their lifestyle. My take on what Gore is asking for is for people to make small changes (more efficient light bulbs, green energy, recycle, etc) that if everyone followed those changes, would help in a big way overall. If Gore isn't asking others to make radical changes, isn't it kind of a straw man argument to criticize Gore for not making radical changes in his own energy consumption? | ||||

The point was to show that Gore is unwilling to truly conserve. The fact is Bush (outside of his presidential requirements) could fulfill this requirement. Gore has the money and the means to lower his carbon consumption if he wanted to (and as he suggests us to do). Yet he flat out refuses. George Bush does it voluntarily, Gore refuses. I think it shows a lot about his character. He's the one trying to get us to make lifestyle changes. I think he should lead by example. He has the means to, he just doesn't have the will. He's not asking Gore to change his energy use, he's just asking him to do it in a more environmentally friendly way which he has the money and means to do. He won't.
