Husband rips wife's eyes out after she refuses sex

A MAN who ripped out his wife's eyes in a fit of rage was sentenced by a French court to 30 years behind bars today.

Mohamed Hadfi, 31, tore out his 23-year-old wife Samira Bari's eyes following a heated argument in their apartment in the southern French city of Nimes in July 2003 after she refused to have sex with him.

Ms Bari, who had demanded a divorce before the attack, was permanently blinded.

Hadfi, a Moroccan, initially fled to Germany. He was finally arrested and sent back to France, where he was indicted for "acts of torture and barbarity leading to a permanent disability".

Prosecutor Dominique Tourette demanded that Hadfi be sentenced to 30 years in prison, two thirds of which must be served in full, calling the defendant a "diabolic torturer".

Once his sentence is served, Hadfi will be deported and barred from ever returning to France.

His lawyer Jean-Pierre Cabanes meanwhile insisted there were extenuating circumstances.

"This is the result of a marriage that was arranged, not chosen," he said, pointing to the gulf separating his client, who came from southern Morocco, and his young wife, who had grown up in France.

Mr Cabanes begged the jury for leniency, claiming his client's action "appeared to stem from a mental illness."

So much for cultural values. Why should we respect those who have no respect for oursandare actively trying to destroy ours?

This is one of those cases where I would say an eye for an eye. He should get jail time and he should have his eyes surgically removed. There is no punishment suitable besides that for what he did to his wife who will now be permanently blind.

an eye for an eye makes the world blind - or something like that.

i have no sympathy for this ass, but i don't know that he should have is eyes put out. it does raise interesting questions as to what is considered cruel and unusual.

for instance, yes, having his eyes removed seems cruel and unusual, but in relation to the act he committed it seems almost appropriate.

What on earth does this have to do with respecting a culture or anyone trying to destroy Western culture?

Looks like a criminal act and it was treated as such. It has nothing to do with culture except that this was an arranged marriage, as a huge % of marriages in the world still are. Are arranged marriages trying to destroy Western culture?

I think he means because the guy was Moroccan and in Morocco they still treat their women as objects to own. So when this guy's wife refused to have sex with her, he thought she had no right to since he was the husband, the male.

outdated and barbaric I know. I would've beat the shit out of the guy personally, but when again i'm a western woman. although this chick was French, but then again, more reason to shrink back from a fight. (i kid i kid)

Their is no excuse for what that guy did, but I think some american woman take advantage of our protection of woman, and abuse that protection by verbally abusing men. There is no excuse for hitting a woman and I have never and will never do it, but why can some women get away with saying what we would punch a guy out for saying and treating us.

They were arguing, but it doesn't say who started it or who heated it. She asked him for a divorce in the middle of an argument and he went nuts. I don't think there's enough information to really determine whether or not she was verbally abusive.

Some women will abuse men verbally and know they can get away with it because the vast majority of american men will not hit them, and they are protected by law. I just don't think that is right. They have the protection but they should not take advantage of it by abusing men. Men will take a lot from women that they would not take from a man.

that still has nothing to do with anyone trying to change someone else's culture, it is simply a cultural difference which isn't put up with, so the dude is going to prison

I don't think he did it out of disrespect for Western culture or because he wants to destroy Western culture

Speaking of culture. Their culture works but in a sometimes savage way and I think it keeps them stuck in the middle ages. I don't think that they want to copy anything from us though, so that leaves them stuck in the mud with no way out.

If verbal assaults are able to provoke a physical response, then someone should be seeking help from a professional.

They are just words. Feel free to call your lady everything in the book. She can't assault you physically and you can't assault her physically. It's fair.

i didn't say he did, i was just stating the probable reason behind his actions. I majored in languages, cultures and international business, so I've studied a lot of different countries and viewpoints and was just trying to show what his thought process probably was. I thoroughly disagree with it of course and if he had tried anything like that on me, i would have beaten the shit out of him.

then again, i'm a 6 foot tall athletic woman and not a little waify thing that couldn't fight back, so i digress...

There is never an excuse for hitting a woman and I don't think there is one for calling them names in an heated arguement, that might be just me but I like a civil world. I just think that women for the sake of a civilized world not abuse the fact that, here in the west, we do not abuse them physically, and they are protected by the law like everyone else, by abusing men verbally knowing that most men will not physically react. I also definately think that men should not react physically. You know it is really up to them to decide to make the world a little better place.
