| Clinton, Giuliani hold leads in New York AP - THE RACE: The presidential race for Democrats, Republicans in New York. ___ THE NUMBERS - DEMOCRATS Hillary Clinton 43 percent Al Gore 14 percent Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) 11 percent John Edwards 7 percent (all other candidates below 5 percent) ___ THE NUMBERS - REPUBLICANS Rudy Giuliani 48 percent John McCain (news, bio, voting record) 16 percent Newt Gingrich 8 percent George Pataki 7 percent Mitt Romney 6 percent ___ The Siena College Research Institute telephone poll of 622 registered New York state voters was conducted March 19-22 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. The Democratic sample of 277 voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 6 percentage points while the Republican sample of 180 voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 7 percentage points. ___ OF INTEREST: A January poll from Siena had Clinton the favorite of 58 percent of Democratic voters in New York, but that poll did not include former Vice President Al Gore. Gore's inclusion in the latest poll took support largely away from Clinton.
