grembert has political potential

If Bush would agree to any kind of a meeting with Congressional leaders to work out a compromise bill on Iraq, he could find a way to get a policy that both parties could support. But, by digging in his heels, he is bringing about a showdown, hurting his own party and , as Motivez wrote, looking like he wants to run out the clock on his presidency.

people still are trying to put it as Congress not funding the war... they're not the one shooting down the bill.

They also promised to get us out of Iraq. Does one lie make the other justified...no. But they have to play politics just like the GOP...dirty.

I don't believe ever saying it was "ok", if you could quote me on that I'd appreciate it! Putting pork into any bill is not ok, but the hypocrisy of conservatives jumping all over liberals for doing the same thing they did for the past 6 years is amazing!

In more ways than one! I agree it's hypocritical of the democrats to "buy votes," and it's hypocritical of republicans to criticize this given the amount of money that's been involved in republicans pet projects when they had control. You really want to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges here, you will lose!

Just about every conservative on this forum has been against the pork from the beginning. Now that the Democrats are adding pork to bills that micromanage the war in Iraq all of a sudden the hollering should stop and they're the hypocrites...

This isn't about pork, yes pork sucks. The bigger issue here is that they added pork to a bill with such strong effects on Iraq that wouldn't have otherwise passed. This does two things... 1. It says that Democrats can be bought when it comes to what they think is best for our troops in Iraq and for the war effort and 2. it shows that the certain members of the Democratic party have such a hold stronghold over the party that they can get anything passed, even if a good number of Democrats disagree with the bill, they have the ability to buy them off. Pelosi, Murtha, Obey, etc have taken advantage of and abused their positions of power to undercut the war effort.

I don't get it...

That they added pork to get votes doesn't make sense. The purported bribers and bribees both knew the bill would be vetoed.

So why would people be swayed to vote for something with a bribe they know they'll never get paid?
