Pelosi broke the law visiting Damascus

Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Tom Lantos (D-CA), who also traveled to Syria with Speaker Pelosi last week, has some choice words for those who are now attacking their trip.

LANTOS: The administration's criticism is particularly pathetic, because two days before we went to Damascus, three Republican colleagues were there, meeting with Assad. We had a distinguished Republican in our delegation. And two days after our delegation, another Republican member of Congress visited with Assad. So if this is not hypocrisy, I don't know what is.

I don't recall the Republicans bringing messages of peace or having Palestinian ministers and other middle eastern officials saying Syria's actions and will has been justified because of their visit. That's the key difference. Pelosi went there for more than just a meet and greet. And Lentos is being dishonest for leaving that out. I really don't understand how people can't see the difference between a meet and greet and meddling with international affairs as Pelosi did.

That would be called a Bipartisan Congressional Delegation. A standard practice. The Whitehouse has no control over that. Do you claim Speaker Pelosi is no more important than a member of her group by invitation? Somehow I don't recall the names of any of these Republicans running to the press and suggesting Israel is ready for Peace Talks? You can correct me if I am wrong in that!
