A picture does not necessarily prove or disprove anything. Most of the time pictures are used as a visual aid to help their story along not to prove it.

It makes perfect sense. You claim global warming deniers say what they say to get money, and that they don't really believe in it. Why can't these poeple do the same?

So we've all heard and seen of the stranded polar bears (shown below) that have been a major tool in the propaganda war on global warming.

you're suggesting the polar bears in the picture are those specifically addressed in the arguement for GW. please, ballz.

while i don't agree with use 'false' photos for evidence of anything, the risk is still great to these animals.

Between 1981 and 1998, scientists in Hudson Bay observed that the weight and number of polar bear cubs born declined by 15 percent. If female bears fall below a certain weight threshold, they will not conceive (ENN 2002). For every week a bear has not been hunting, it becomes 10 kilograms (22 pounds) lighter (Kerr 2002). As Seymour Laxon of University College London put it, "No ice means no bears" (Laxon et al. 2003).

A 2002 World Wildlife Federation report claims that rapid changes in the northern ecosystem may be incapable of supporting polar bears within 100 years (Norris, Rosentrater, and Martin Eid 2002). Changing ice conditions in Hudson Bay have already reduced the number of polar bears over the last 20 years, and the number of live births and the health of adult bears have declined (Johansen, in press).

The scientists have found that for every week the ice breaks up earlier the bears come ashore 10 kilos lighter.

Ian Stirling "It means she's not able to lay down as much fat or produce enough milk and so something goes and it starts with the weaker smaller cub. These two cubs, this one is smaller and thinner, and if push comes to shove, it's going to be the one that goes next," Stirling says.

Not only are more cubs dying but the birth rate has dropped 15 per cent.

In 1991, Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines blew its top and the sulphuric acid particles it sent into the atmosphere cooled the planet. The following summer the ice on Hudson Bay melted almost a month later.

"That had a dramatic effect on the bears," Stirling says. "They were bigger, they were heavier, they had more cubs, the cubs survived better. And the cubs that were born in that year, we call them the Pinatubo bears, because so many of them survived from that particular year class."

but i don't see how this negates GS, though. according to the article, these 'freeze outs' have been documented since the 70's, and GW doesn't predict an immediate climb in temps around the world.
