| Nuclear Energy What are some of the cons against Nuclear energy? I know it produces waste and extremelly hazardous waste at that. Why has Nuclear energy fallen out of style in the US? Currently we burn a lot of coal for electricity. It has a great energy to mass ratio which is why we use it. One of he byproducts is carbon dioxide which contributes to greenhouse gases. Natural gas is good but expensive and also carbon dioxide byproduct. Hydroelectric is good but destroy critical salmon habitat etc. Solar is problematic as the technology is not there yet as it would require a huge area to be covered in order to produce anything significant. Same with wind mills and wind is intermittent. The reason I ask about nuclear as it seems to be a better way to go since it does not give off any carbon dioxide. Does the pros outweigh the cons as far as waste disposal etc? Also in France, it produces 75 percent of electricity. In Japan, they've just decided to build 20 more nuclear reactors in the next ten years, which would increase their electricity capacity by 50 percent, all nuclear. Anyone have any strong feelings about this one way or the other as I am ill-informed on this topic? | ||||
