you think that E-1s only work 40 hours a week? If I pulled the same hours that I do in the Marines, I could definetly make more money at McDonalds

E-1s are typically in boot or still training. No offense, but during this time they work hard, but they have no expenses beyond their initial boot supply needs.. which if you really wanted to, you could keep that cost below $200. Not to mention they give you an advance on that.

Aside from being in Iraq, when you're stateside.. you're living a much better life than you would if you were working at McDonalds in a poor neighborhood. Which is why poor people join the military.

I didn't say they don't think abou the war. I say they don't think about it in depth.

why can't you join as an officer or something? why would they turn down a scientist? and if you can't join the military, why don't you join the CIA, FBI or NSA or something and work toward the same goals?

i make a little over 200 dollars in a drill weekend. That typically is 6 hour half day on friday, a 14 hour saturday and then 12 hour sunday. 32 hours for a 200 bucks, is 6.25 an hour. I can definetly make more than that at McDonalds.

Because of drill weekend pay? Do you honestly think if you left the military, got an apartment and applied at McDonalds your quality of life would increase?

By quality of life I'm referring to his economic status. I apologize.

im just sellin some oranges

huntington beach
slosucks has political potential

net income is way higher if youre in the military, you cant look at it hourly

if youre making 1300 a month, and have no expenses, its not such a bad deal

lets say 500 a month to rent an apt
200 a month for food
about 150 for utilities
car payments (+gas)....a shitload of money

you could not be bringing in more money on a mcdonalds salary and pay for all those things than if you were in the army

dont get me wrong i respect what youre doing, im just lookin at it cost wise

Exactly.

I've never heard a guy in the military say "I'd be so much better off financially if I took a job at McDonalds."

I have however heard many low wage earners talk about how much better they'd be financially if they joined the military.

my point is that it is not for the money. And it gets worse the higher the rank you pick up. I make more money in my civilian job already anyways
