That would depend on the circumstances. The gun may help, it is also possible it has a negative effect.

I'm not suggesting that others shouldn't carry because I see no reason too, but some people do not like it, and a feature of most societies is the ability to impose limits on others.

This ranks up there as one of the most asinine things I've heard. Of course cops have guns and get shot at, BECAUSE WE PAY THEM TO RUN TOWARD CRIMINALS!

Why don't you claim there's an epidemic of people seeing teeth pulled and say "You do realize dentists do it every day? Right?"

Inner city violence is a major contributor to the body count and yes, a lot of the people involved in that type of violent end carry guns themselves...

And in the VAST majority of cases, LEGAL gun owners are not involved. What I am saying and have said is increasing LEGAL gun ownership can help when someone decides to do something illegal with a gun.
