Not in the slightest. But I also don't care if someone wants to give a war president their purple heart, regardless if I agree with them or not.

I think it's hilarious that Bush would accept it when he only signed up for the National Guard through Daddy's connection's in order to avoid being sent overseas to Vietnam.

He doesn't deserve it at all but I don't really care what some guy wants to do with his medal

Wait, did someone come up with more documents that Democrats forged that prove this? Can't wait for a left leaning news organization to jump all over that one!!!

I think it would be poor taste to not accept it. I was given all the awards my grandfather earned in Korea, was it poor taste in my accepting those

there is a big difference between being awarded a purple heart due to combat actions and a veteran giving his medal to the President.

For instance, I do not expect President Bush to wear this medal

My Grandfather gave me his medals that he earned fighting for Germany in WW2. I guess I should have them melted down

and you served during which war? I find it very interesting that people who have never served call into questions bush's military past yet most of them have never served themselves on any capacity.

You don't have to have served in the military to comment on the military.

And for the record ... if i didn't have an exclusionary disability i'd probably be in Iraq/Afghanistan or in a casket right now.

those that are comparing the awarding of a purple heart by the military and a man sending the president a medal obviously know nothing about the military

i agree... i think it's a dumb idea for the guy to do it, but i'm not going to fault Bush for accepting it as a token of thanks.

I don't need to serve to know that Bush's national guard service was a way to escape the risk that the ordinary American people without rich daddy's had to face when it came to Vietnam.

What's so incredibly ironic is how he's used put the national guard in harm's way in Iraq when he was unwilling to make the same commitment he expects out of people.. and not to mention how he's usurped the authority of the Governor's to deploy their guard units without their consent..

If we actually ever faced a threat that required a draft I would enlist. I'm not going to sign up for an ill conceived, pointless war and die for no reason in Iraq, though.

But hey, lets keep it about the topic and not about me, mmkay? Thanks.

Sorry for using you as my example but i was trying to push the point that there are many that use plenty of talk about military without having ever worn the uniform. When confronted about it it is the same thing "I wont serve in this war or I wouldn'r serve under him or I would fight but ...." This is a major difference between people like me and people like that. Military folks have no control over where you go or what you do and we accept that. That is why it is called service. I go where the leaders of the country say I do.

Even with the Bush was only in the guard comments. So what! He still wore a uniform and unless someone can prove that he deliberatly went aganist deployment orders then they need to shut up. I have been trying to catch a deployment for over a year now and have not been able to. So does this mean that I chose to not be in harms way if the war is over tomorrow and I did not deploy???

Until a person has served and earned their own medals they have not eraned the right to comment on what someone who has served chooses to do with theirs.

I've already said I have no problem with this guy giving it to whoever he wants, I just find it laughable that Bush would accept it.

He's made a show about it, like he has with other things.. like the jump suit and landing on that aircraft carrier.. he fancies himself a soldier, but it's not the case.

edit: I also disagree with the idea that someone can't comment on a situation until arbitrary condition x is met.

The context is what bothers me, I would liken it to Tom Brady accepting a purple heart from an admiring fan who wanted to give it to him for sacrificing his body to win the super bowl. I hold nothing against the guy giving the medal, but I still find accepting it with the idea of honoring Bush's verbal wounds to be in poor taste.
