Doing this will lock in a win for the Dems in congress

Every dem and dem sympathiser should constantly and consistently talk about Iraq and civil war in the same sentence. That way, the platform becomes 'withdraw from iraq because the repubs got us in the middle of a civil war and ruined the country.' This is in direct opposition to what the repubs have been doing, which is constantly and consistently mention Iraq and terrorism in the same sentence, so as to paint the dems as criticizing a fight on terror and wanting to withdraw from a fight with terrorists. Whose rhetoric wins depends on who wins the word association game. And who wins the word association game wins Congress.

basically, who's the best at politics. the problem is, i don't think all the dems have a consistent platform that they all agree on.

The Republicans have a much better propaganda machine than the Democrats do. They're much more effective at getting their message out there and consolidating opinions around election time so they all speak with one voice, use the same talking points, etc..

The Democrats are no where near as good at it, and it's a huge hurdle for them to overcome.

Well, it's a good thing it's not about who is RIGHT. It's about who plays the game better.

Fantastic what this has turned into.

What I am saying is that it used to be about presenting truth, and how a candidate was going to deal with the truth.

Now it's about manipulating the reality of situations for personal gain. And it sucks.

these days it's so hard to really 'lie' about much, as technology and the number of people interested in getting 'the dirt' on the opposing party is so high, it's hard for anybody to really get away with anything and nobody find out. i'd say truth is more common these days than it ever has been, otherwise people will know you lied. now i'ts all about getting the painful truth about the opposing party, or whose truth looks worse. but yeah, politics has always been about power

Meh, as a result of lies being so easily detectable now, politics has become all about misleading insenuations instead of outright lies, which can be just as effective as an outright lie. For example, the administration couldn't come out and say, "Saddam was behind 9/11"; instead, they simply mentioned Saddam and 9/11 together so often that a huge % of people ended up thinking Saddam was behind 9/11. Of course, if anyone calls them on it, they've got the plausible deniability thing going. Fox News does the same. What was that survey that showed FNC viewers were most misinformed about facts? It's not because FNC outright lies to viewers. It misleads them through insenuation.

here is the most recent:

Section 4: Audience Segments: Online Papers Modestly Boost Newspaper Readership

notice o'reilly and rush are at the top. comparing the top news channels FNC and CNN, there isn't much difference between 31 and 28.

Well, aside from noting that FNC has the 2nd lowest % of college educated viewers (the only less educated audience being religious radio), let's look at the three questions they asked people to determine their "knowledge":

1) which party has a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives (Republicans);
2) the name of the current U.S. Secretary of State (Condoleezza Rice);
3) the name of the current president of Russia (Vladimir Putin)

IMO, these questions don't address what is being discussed in this thread. They're just basic questions, the answers to which are simple facts that are not the subject of any nuance, misinformation or controversy. I said before the FNC will not blatantly lie, but instead mislead with insenuation. The subjects about which FNC misleads have nothing to do with those questions. I'd like to see them ask FNC viewers whether Saddam was behind 9/11, whether WMD have been found in Iraq, etc. Basically, ask them about all of the things which are not true, but would be a Republican wet dream if they were true.

That's not the poll I was referring to. I was referring to the one that asked people whether Saddam was behind 9/11.

Can't find a direct link to it, but here's an FNC story which talks about Scott McClellan referring to it:

FOXNews.com - Bush: No Link Between Iraq, Sept. 11 Attacks - Politics | Republican Party | Democratic Party | Political Spectrum
McClellan could offer no clear explanation as to why recent public opinion polls indicate that 70 percent of Americans think there is a tie between Iraq and the attacks.

so basically you're saying 70% listen to FNC, or 70% listen to bush (who here states there is no connection)...i'm confused. what are you blaming this on again?
