| Sunni Shia civil war sounds good to me... I happen to be of the opinion that the Muslim world is on a collision course with the West. I also think that due to disparate birth rates, the Muslim world would come out on top. But what if there were a massive civil war in the Muslim world between shia and sunni? Problem solved?! Maybe that would be the icing on the cake if the Iraq situation spreads. | ||||

| Not muslims, per se. In another circumstance, where Muslims weren't on a collision course with Western civilization, I wouldn't think massive death of Muslims is okay. But seeing as how the whole Enlightenment seemed to skip that part of the world, unfortunately, I think a violent confrontation is inevitable, and I'd rather they kill each other before we have to go to war with them. | ||||

| Who do you think would win in Iraq or on a larger scale? That is one of the problems with just letting an Iraq Civil War happen even if we don't care about the deaths. There are plenty of outside interests waiting to move-in and fill any power void. I get what you are saying. That we are not responcible for thousands of years of religious tribal hate, but I don't think that solution is so simple.

It's not really about shia and sunni, IMO. It's about culture. Turkey is largely Muslim yet they're staunchly secular. The middle east has a culture that needs to die. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Islam, yet that culture happens to have taken on a muslim form. | ||||

| These guys have a score they are going to settle one way or another. It took someone as ruthless as Saddam to keep it from exploding into what we have today. And if you believe the kool-aid drinkers, it's going to get worse without us there. | ||||

| In Iraq its not just a sunni v shia thing. seen reports the last weeks of Sunni tribes vs AQ. For the CoW Iraq is a question of loosing to the right, (least worst?) faction(s) & getting the jihadists to fight amongst themselves (NI, INLA, MI5, IRA 'steakknive' etc anyone?) The credibility of democracy in Iraq is so low as to be almost negitive. On a wider scale a Sunni v Shia war would impact massively on the ordainary lives of regular LL posters , ..., along with everyone else on the planet Just how much are you prepared to pay for petrol, heating oil etc? I gotta go ,my drink is going flat | ||||
