Israeli PM Has Accepted Cease-Fire Deal

JERUSALEM Aug 11, 2006 (AP)— Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has accepted an emerging Mideast cease-fire deal and informed the United States of his decision, Israeli officials said Friday.

Olmert will recommend that his government approve the deal in its meeting on Sunday, the officials said on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to brief journalists on the internal discussions.

It was not immediately clear whether Israel's expanded ground offensive would be frozen. Defense officials said it appeared the campaign would be halted.

I think ultimately it'll depend on whether or not Israel has to make concessions (Sheba farms primarily) and help pay for the infrastructure they've destroyed.

My Way News - Security Council OKs Mideast Peace Deal

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The U.N. Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution Friday that calls for an end to the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, and authorizes the deployment of 15,000 U.N. peacekeepers to help Lebanese troops take control of south Lebanon as Israel withdraws.

I wonder where those 15,000 will come from and if they will try to stop the hezzys from firing missiles into Israel.

As far as Israel paying for damages, yeah....right.... Israel was being attacked from within Lebanon. They did what they felt they had to do to protect their country and people. If Lebanon didn't like the reaction, they shouldn't have allowed it to happen in the first place.

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said on Saturday the militant organization would abide by the U.N. cease-fire resolution but would keep fighting as long as Israeli troops remained in southern Lebanon.

if this was their goal:

Beirut confident Hezbollah will give up power

and hezbollah does indeed disarm and give up power, then i'd say the israeli attacks were successful and a victory for the israelis. mission accomplished.

They aren't going to fully disarm, and whatever they do give up, they can just get later

You are really clutching at straws here, all Israel has is another promise from Hezbollah that it will disarm down the road *yawn* this is coming from the same people who said Hezbollah was going to be completely destroyed and they were getting their soldiers back

Now they are retreating back to Israel with their tail between their legs

The Israelis have been the subject of UN resolutions time after time and disobeyed, Hezbollah has a long way to go before they could hope to catch up

They'll keep the peace as much as the Israelis do, its a cease fire not a peace treaty
