Former Bush voters plan to vote Democratic in November

in response to another thread posted earlier suggesting that 87% of 'base' republicans will still maintain party loyalty. i wasn't really suprised by it, as i know some who will vote republican regardless, even knowing little or nothing about the candidate. yes, they admit this.

more interesting, i think, is the view of moderates on either side of the fence, especially those who voted bush previously.

Republicans determined to win in November are up against a troublesome trend — growing opposition to President Bush.

An Associated Press-Ipsos poll conducted this week found the president's approval rating has dropped to 33 percent, matching his low in May. His handling of nearly every issue, from the Iraq war to foreign policy, contributed to the president's decline around the nation, even in the Republican-friendly South.
More sobering for the GOP are the number of voters who backed Bush in 2004 who are ready to vote Democratic in the fall's congressional elections — 19 percent. These one-time Bush voters are more likely to be female, self-described moderates, low- to middle-income and from the Northeast and Midwest.

Two years after giving the Republican president another term, more than half of these voters — 57 percent — disapprove of the job Bush is doing.

what district?

I'm so pissed I was in the PA-06 before I moved back to North Philly, PA-06 is one of the 10 GOP Tossup races on cookpolitical...one of those we (dems) really need to win

Now I'm in such a deep blue district I have no need to participate in local non-primary elections...

On the state level in oklahoma? Thats dead wrong, we're sick of democrat rule they've fucked us over for DECADES on the state level. We're showing a strong shift towards more republicans on a state level which is a good thing. But I'll probably be voting democrat instead of for sullivan assuming someone decent runs.

Kansas from what I hear in a few areas is leaning more towards demorats on a state level and they could shift more democrat this fall, although I dont live there. I travel up there a lot for work so I hear a lot of their radio, but I honestly cant' say for sure. I can' tell you my two friends in the house here are pretty in the loop and both agree with me that we'll continue to move republican on the state level. But thats a good thing on the state level, the democrats have seriously hampered developement

Kossacks from Kansas told me the GOP party has gotten so extreme on the state level that moderate GOPers have been pushed out to join the Dems

Remember how Carson ran a good campaign in Oklahoma, just shy of a 10 point loss I think...maybe the same thing will happen there

Kansas GOPers are a lot more conservative then republican GOPers. Not just economically, I'm very conservative econmically thats no secret, but socially and from what I gather thats where the outrage/upset voters are coming from in Kansas.s\
