Adventure racing

So I want to get involved in an Eco-challenge team to start doing adventure racing. Anybody know anything about this? I know a bit, but it's pretty hard to get involved.

I know that the Navy Seals have a team each year and don't ever win. I'm thinking it's ridiculously hard.

My boss pays for the lab to get drunk quite often.

And by drunk, I mean trashed.

last month i got an extra ticket to go along with a bunch of coworkers to a yankees game at fenway. it was so wicked. one of the higher ups paid for all the drinks and i got so drunk I was hungover through monday.

Yes as I was on a team. It is one of the hardest things I have ever done to date and I have done a lot (including mountaineering, professional freestyle ski team, extreme ski jumping, and mtn bike racing).

If you have a bunch of buddies with similiar interests then it is easy to form a team. If you don't know anyone then it is a bit harder. We competed in several small eco challenges. They involved swimming, kayaking, river rafting, climbing, mountaineering, orienteering, and of course mountain biking and running. I have done two and they have been in Canada. Damn fun stuff and it really pushes you to the limit.

So finding a team is ALWAYS the hardest part. Finding someone to be as committed as you are while also being a noob...not easy. But I have at least one person interested.

Did you do it in BC? I know that's where they have the competitions each and every year. Did you do the full 300 mile 7-10 day trek or several smaller 24 hr - weekend races? They seem to have plenty of 12-24 hr races around here. I'll just have to make my way down to some athletic shop and see if they know people who know people.

Where did you live when you were doing this?

I lived in Seattle when I did these races. I did the three day races which are mini 7 day races. Same things packed into them without stretching it out for ever. Yes I did it in BC. I would suggest a smaller 3 day race before you jump into the 7 day as it truly is one of the hardest things I have done yet.
