Maybe he thought that's how you meant it to be.

The pregnant woman says the 9 months part. BTW, I never knew a woman's financial responsibility ended at the birth. That's good to know though!

The mother carries them physically for 9 months. I am assuming you mean that the father carries them financially for 18 years? Because if you meant literal carrying, doesn't the mother do that also?

I meant in every way.

Oh, and btw... get divorced and guess who's going to get the kid? And quit your job to stay home with him and guess who's going to pay for the kid? And if you don't have a job or a husband you can go to the state and take other people's money to pay for your kid. If you wanted, all your financial responsibility *could* go away. Your ex-husband's would not for 18 years.

Please. You and I both know that life isn't always that easy and doesn't work that way.

And women could post their horror stories about never receiving child support, or any type of support from the fathers of their children. Fulfilling financial obligations does not make a parent. It is well within my own opinion that financially supporting a child is the easiest part of parenting.

And it is true that a woman *could* sit around and collect welfare off of the state (not in my state, but in others thanks to our wonderful welfare reform ), but what kind of woman truly wants a life like that? While there are some, they also certainly aren't the norm.

You're being irrational now. While the situation that you describe certainly could and does happen, it is not the norm and you know that.

I'm not saying fathers sometimes don't pay. I'm saying the default is that they're supposed to.

While the situation that you describe certainly could and does happen, it is not the norm and you know that.
Sadly, I believe you're wrong.

Of COURSE the default is that they are supposed to. Fathers should be required to support their children.

The Working Mothers Millennium
Yep. Most mothers certainly are useless, living off of other people's money, aren't they.
did find a page that has some interesting statistics compiled by Catalyst, a non-profit research and business advisory organization http://www.wwork.com/Home/mom.htm . Their comparison is based on figures in 1976 and 1996. Here are some highlights:

40% of working women are mothers of children under age 18
83% of new mothers returned to the labor force within 6 months after childbirth
55% of working women provide half or more of their household income, among married women, 48% provide half or more of the household income
71% of all singles mothers are employed
7% of all families conform to the tradition of wage-earning dad, a stay-at-home mom, and one or more children

Fantastic...rather than decide what's best for the child you're saying it's ok that the default is that they go to the mother and the father just starts paying.

Where did I say "most mothers" are anything?

That is not what I'm saying at all.

Let's review the conversation, in case you forgot.

(that part was in response to my "they also certainly aren't the norm" quote).

So now you say this.
Where did I say "most mothers" are anything?
Well what is it? You can't have it both ways. Either it is the norm (meaning the majority of cases, this is how it is) or it's not.

Sorry, I misunderstood that one part.

When you said "the situation that you describe certainly could and does happen" I thought you were talking about the child going to the mother and the father automatically paying. The post where you said that is edited.....did you change a thought or did I mis-read it?
