Are you serious? So a major earthquake is never looming over their heads on a daily basis?

THEY ARENT SIMILAR SITUATIONS.

one group had 2 days warning of a specific danger.

The other had a 2 min warning

no. You have no idea how earthquakes work.

Tornado alley is the entire midwest. Are you really suggesting nobody should live between the Rockies and the Appalachias ?

That's completely wrong. I don't know how many times I can say "TORNADO ALLEY" and keep a straight face as you guys ignore the "warning" the name gives.

Sigh. No.

Right...because you know that somehow? Even if I didn't write papers on faults and tectonics in college...I think I would still know a little.

Not at all. Just like I am not suggesting people should not have lived in New Orleans. What I am saying is that if you hold one group to a certain standard, hold the other group in the same situation to the same standards.

If you live in a town with a high murder rate and get shot, should I just say hey he should have known better ?

Now lets compare that to someone walks up to you and says I will shoot you the day after tomarrow if you are still in town. And you know it wasnt a random threat, he will really shoot you.
If you stuck around, you are a moron.

Right...because you know that somehow? Even if I didn't write papers on faults and tectonics in college...I think I would still know a little.
well obviously you dont since you think a strong earthquake can happen at anytime. They need to build up pressure, otherwise there wont be any earthquakes above ~5.0 and those are nothing to worry about.

fuck them.

So why doesn't that apply to YOUR people? How about the very same people that build their houses next to the river that floods every 5 years? If they are YOUR people, they get a pass?
Show me one person in the mid-west who lost his house to a hurricane and OVER SIXTEEN MONTHS LATER is still demanding I pay for his living arrangements.

Maybe because the whities get their help immediately and get their claims paid with no issues? Maybe the total and complete mismanagement of Katrina leading up to and after it made landfall didn't help the issue? I dunno.

Same thing...same with the folks that live along the Mississippi and similar flood zones. Why should I keep paying to rebuild their lives when they are stupid to begin with? (at least if you use Katrina logic I should say that)

I live in tornado alley and have never seen a tornado, I doubt the same could be said about an area below sea level that everyone has been hit by hurricanes.

When was the last time New Orleans flooded by broken levies after a hurricane?

Can't live in CA cause of an increased risk of earthquakes.

Can't live anywhere on the gulf coast or even most states on the east coast, cause of an increased risk of hurrianes.

Can't live in the midwest because of tornadoes.

Can't live in the north because of an increased risk of blizzards.

Can't live in the western states because of an increased risk of drought.

By your argument, people shouldn't live there, because they 'might die'. Which means, the US is uninhabitable.

Brilliant.

Worst thread ever.

Not even close. Never said "you can't or shouldn't live here" I said "why the double standard?" Why do whities in tornado alley get the sympathy and money with no complaints yet the WASPs and people like you complained about the people affected by Katrina in New Orleans? Go ahead and digest all that and come back to the thread when you're ready to make some sense.

first of all, the reason so many people stayed in New Orleans is because they didn't have the $$ to leave. They didn't have the means. These were very very poor people who have survived generations of hurricanes. They've been told to evacuate over and over again, year after year and the worst never happened. That's what they thought when they were told to evacuate before Katrina. try to understand. try to see it from their point of view.

as far as Tornado Alley is concerned, my sister lives in Tennessee. She moved there from Maryland. She loves it. yes, there are risks of Tornadoes, but you're going to get risks wherever you go, it's a matter of what you can handle. for me, blizzards are fine. I can deal with that. tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes. no thanks. but that's me, that's why I live in New England now. My sister loves Tennessee and she's not going anywhere.

I can see the comparisons, although the time frame involved stretches it. with Tornadoes they can drop down suddenly with no warning, at least there is an advance warning for hurricanes for those who have the means of leaving......
