What if you are like me, and feel that our soldiers need to stay there but fill a different capacity than they are today? I think our president's policy sucks but leaving immediately with a funding cut would suck equally if not more. I dont think we should be standing on street corners. I think we should be controlling their borders to keep foreign fighters and weapons out.

Have you ? Taking out an army and putting a nation back on its feet isnt something that can happen overnight. Especially when people are attacking you.

Last i heard, they had 300,000 soldiers and police trained and ready to go. Are they bullshitting me again? Are the 300,000 soldiers and police hiding in the same place as WMD? They need to control their own city or fight their own civil war. We need to keep foreign interests out so the Iraqi's determine who leads. We don't need to provide security from themselves, but from outside sources of guns and influence.

Our own ~200,000 Soldiers are having a hard enough time to maintain peace in some cities, I doubt the Iraqis would be able to do it as well since they dont have the experience.

Unikely to happen soon. If the leadership cannot maintain control you end up with fractured miltary forces.

The problem is the Iraqi's remain divided

They could probably do it with fewer soldiers than we could. They know the city, they speak the language, they hear the rumors, they're not hated as foreign occupiers, etc. The only thing we'd be good for is air support and supply.

The reason the Iraqis aren't taking over is because a) they don't believe the central government is worth fighting for and b) even if they did, there's no reason to risk their own lives when the Americans are willing to do it for them.

We need a political solution which will give them a government to fight for, and then we need to get out and force them to fight for it.

I'd love to hear what progress YOU THINK has been made in Iraq after these 4 years and billions of dollars? Then, please go on to explain to me how Bush not having a leash on his funding is going to lead to anything different?
