I'm talking specifically about Bush's rhetoric regarding Iran and the nuclear weapon issue and how it's been framed by his talking points and foreign policy goals in the media.. not that it's essentially "state run television" as your post seems to suggest

I'm planning on watching the one on C-SPAN, I caught the end of the Colbert interview.. which seemed like it was excellent. He seems like a really normal down to earth guy, totally unlike the Colbert "character" he plays

Bush's rhetoric?

so you are going to sit here and tell me you trust iran when they say they only want nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, while at the same time calling for israel to be wiped off the map?!!! this has abolutely nothing to do with bush's rhetoric or the media for that matter. this has everything to do with common sense and what iran's president himself says.

The 35-nation board of the U.N. atomic watchdog agency approved the resolution Saturday that could lead to Iran's referral to the U.N. Security Council for violating a nuclear arms control treaty, unless Tehran eases suspicions about its nuclear activities.

The resolution was adopted with 22 of 35 board nations supporting it, 12 abstaining and one rejecting it.
That means 1 country rejected it. 1.

IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei said the decision showed that "The international community is ... not satisfied with the level of confidence building measures Iran has so far taken."
But of course, it's all the Bush "rhetoric".

The Europeans have taken the lead with the diplomacy line, and while I think we do need eyes and ears on the ground in Iran through the IAEA.. labeling them an "Axis of Evil" and using the rhetoric that Bush has about them seems counter productive to accomplish anything, wouldn't you say?

And no, of course I don't believe Ahmadinejad. I don't think he has any credibility when he refuses UN inspections.

Unfortunately, neither does our President when it comes to accusing other nations of this or that relating to WMD. Because of that, I have no problem with the international community's approach, which seems to be making some progress, even if it's slow.

funny, when other countries spout their 'rhetoric' you simply blow it off as propaganda and politics but when ours says anything it's 'death to bush!'

He called them a name "waaaaaa". He called a spade a spade. Just like Reagan did with the Soviet Union. Lefties freaked out about that as well but it woke people up. They really were evil, just like Iran (leadership) is.

I'm not saying he's wrong, just that it's counter productive if after issuing such statements, you then want to use diplomacy to end a dispute over their nuclear program.

You disagree?

it's an obvious exaggeration and hardly the point of the post...why focus on it?

hardly counter-productive. it's saying 'here's what we think of you, be glad we're giving you these options so we don't attack you'

Yes I disagree. They talk shit about us all the time. Always have. But we are supposed to be polite so they "might" work with us in the future? Fuck them. You don't act like a pussy to a bully just so he "might" talk to you later (well, you might, but I wouldn't). You stand up to him, tell him what you think and then work it out.

You're not taking into account that we want something from them, not the other way around though. When I say "we", I don't just mean us, I mean the international community.

They want their oil. We want a nuclear free Iran through peaceful means.

Sure, if you'd rather go to war with them it makes sense to build up the rhetoric to drum up support for such a thing because I mean, they're evil, etc.. but if you want to solve it diplomatically, it's not a good idea.. especially when Russia and China are willing to back them in the UN.

Has nothing to do with being a pussy.. and everything to do with positioning so that we get what we want. We don't have to give in to every demand, we don't have to act like a wimp.. we can be firm in our position and still accomplish things.

So they are liars about nukes...but not liars with their "destroy Isreal" rhetoric? I am not sure how you are allowed to pick and choose what is truth and what is nonsense. Oh that's right...if it fits your agenda, you can make those choices.

uh, they want israel gone. they want armageddon to come so their imam or whatever can come back asap. they openly express this. why in your right mind would you believe them when they say they want the most powerful weapon technology to use peacefully? that goes against all common sense.

that's how i can make these assumptions.

The problem is they don't want the "most powerful weapon technology." They want the most powerful and clean energy sources and want to develop them without other people bothering them about it. Also, where do you get that bullshit about them "wanting armageddeon?" Links? From all I have read and heard, they don't believe in the country Israel and how it was created. I certainly don't agree with it either.

nuclear technology is also the most powerful weapon technology. if they have it for energy, they have it for weapons.
