If someone just believes it, great. If he wants to "adjust" school curricula to reflect it, he can fuck off.
He cannot do that by himself. And I think there are too many people that hold positions that won't let him do that.

Word, religious beliefs mean nothing as long as they aren't being used in legislation. If they are being used in legislation, then it also doesn't matter what they believe, they're wrong.

I would be concerned not so much if they didn't believe in evolution, but didn't believe due to another religious belief rather than some reason that relies on rational thought.

Since when are human robots? If humans could keep their biases and beliefs out of governing and keep tucked in a different area of the brain then we would not need checks and balances at all since humans would govern out of their rational part of their brain but since humans can be biased and irrational and corruptible, a constitution is needed to set the boundaries (the constitution didn't just protect rights, it protected rights by limiting, fragmenting and defining government as best as possible).

A person who doesnt believe in evolution would be apt to want to change policy who would include changing school curriculum and allowing religion to seep into the State - latter of which Bush wants to do.

There are some leaders that may be able to keep personal from public, but the vast majority cannot and it is the vast majority that will ruin us more.

Really? So would you and your conservative friends have a problem voting for an athiest? After all their beliefs in creationism and/or religion should be wholly irrelevant as to how the country is governed.

I'd vote for a constitutional atheist before I'd vote for a fascist Christian.

Why would it matter their religion if it was a constitutional atheist vs a constitutional christian? Religion has to relation to governing if they adhere to the constitution right?

unless they're so religious they start allowing their religious beliefs to govern their interpretation of the law....

Well, that is one thing that is guarenteed not to happen when an athiest interprets the constitution. You would think that an athiest would be the preferred choice for constitutionalists.

Well, if the election was between two strict constructionists / constitutionalists, one being an atheist and the other being a Christian, and all other things being equal - I'd vote for the Christian. Why? Because he has the same faith as me, plain and simple. However, if he started to legislate that belief system, then I'd go for the atheist.

So you can't say it doesn't matter (like you and others did earlier) when it obviously does..

It might not matter in the way they wind up running the government, but the reality is that we all want to vote for people we think best represent us.
