I think you need to read the question again?

You seem to imply certain beliefs in that brainwashing remark? Not a lack of belief in a scientific theory of human origin. That is not the same.

knowing him he meant "anyone who believes in creation is too stupid to vote for" and (I can't believe I'm saying this twice in one day) I agree with him.

However, of the candidates who said they didn't believe in abortion, I wouldn't vote for them... not just for this reason, but for numerous other ones.

Those two issues aren't the same though. Not believing in Evolution is the same as not believing in Gravity. How can I have someone in the White House, leading our nation, that will look at things like NASA and say "they want to try and put a man in space? Not possible." Or, how about if a comet is heading towards earth and he says "God will save us". I don't think so.

I understand that and I don't mean to make this into a new debate. I'm just saying where I rank it. It's unimportant to me. The president's views on this issue don't really determine whether or not they will be a good leader. Just because they choose to believe in Creationism or whatever isn't going to mean they're going to be a bad president or will change our laws.

Obviously I look down on it since the view goes against my own, but it wouldn't be a 100% disqualifier for me.

It might not matter in the way they wind up running the government, but the reality is that we all want to vote for people we think best represent us.

It only "matters" in the way that someone being white and male matters to me - it's not that it matters, I just like things similar to me. If a black female constitutionalist was running for President, I'd cast my vote for her.

Again, the issue isn't about their religion, sex, personal beliefs, evolution, or anything else that doesn't matter. It's about whether they actually believe in the Constitution - or not.

disbelief in evolution is more often than not coupled with a firm belief in creationism, and this belief has its root in christian fundamentalism, which adopts a literal interpretation of the bible as its written in english.

having said this, i cannot support a president who would openly discriminate against the gay population, as the current manifestation of fundamentalist christians seem so willing to do. nor could i elect someone willing to dismiss important medical advances because of those religious beliefs.

i would also like to point out that in some of these fundmentalist minds, the bible trumps everything, including the constitution, and for those of you about to attach a to your post in response to this, i invite you to email those running for office now who do not believe in evolution to ask them which of the two is more important.
