Hmm, Linzy that may be doable with the credit that we have with the airlines right now. What is considered "off season"?

don't pay them a million dollars to do a brake job, it's very easy

make your husband do it

He "doesn't have the time" to do them (and doesn't think they needed to be done ) so a coworker is doing them right now. Midas wanted $150 to do the front brakes alone and another $150 to CLEAN the rear brakes (not replace, just clean because of the leak). I picked up all of the parts this morning for $135 and am giving him $50 to install them.

For sure. We brought our car into one of those places last summer to get new tires. They said we needed to replace our front brakes NOW! We went to the dealer to get a second opinion and they said we have another 1/4 left on them before replacing and to not worry about it. We have yet to replace the brakes a year later and they are still ok after a service visit at the dealer last month. They know brakes are easy money for them and it prey's on people's fear.

My rear brakes didn't need to be replaced. I just got a call from the guy who did it. So I guess I have a ton of stuff to take back. The front brakes did need to be replaced though. They weren't an immediate need, but were getting close.

edit: Damnit my husband was right about the back not needing to be done!! At least there really was a leak though, and that was fixed.

Trip is going AWESOME! I am so thankful for Tropical Depression Alvin and Tropical Storm Barbara for showing up in the Acapulco/Ixtapa area right now, when we were supposed to be there too. We certainly dodged a bullet with that one!

So far, we have done:

Chicago, ghost tour, 4 star hotel (holy cow the food was GOOD!)

Memphis
Graceland
Beale Street
Sun Studios
Stax Records
Hi Records (had to drive in the ghetto to find it!!)
Horse drawn carriage ride through downtown at night (it was incredible!)
a hell hole of a hotel
some other places I can't remember

Nashville
Country Music Hall of Fame
The Hermitage
Rymann Auditorium
We saw a show at the Grand Ole Opry
General Jackson's Showboat Cruise

Bowling Green
Lost River Cave Tours

We are now in a wigwam (yes, a wigwam ) in Cave City Kentucky. We'll be heading to Mamoth Caves in the morning and driving back up to Chicago tomorrow.

Mamoth Caves sucked. I sprained my ankle 200 feet underground and had to be carried out. Being 6 months pregnant and on crutches is IMPOSSIBLE! We bought the DVD for the caves though, and it looked really interesting.

It also made the rest of the trip a little hard, but we still did the Science and Industry Museum in Chicago and walked downtown China Town. Got lost downtown at night too.

We had a blast though. And Mexico had two tropical storms while we would have been there
