MSNBC News cites Whitehouse website to take cheapshot on Falwell

For those who don't know whitehouse.org is like the onion where all they do is make fun of Bush.

The thing is to, you're looking at a guy, Jerry Falwell, who had a lot of influence on the current president. Even now, in fact, one of my producers Chris just pulled up a page from whitehouse.org, where you could, uh they say Jerry Falwell has earned his role as the defacto executive director of domestic and global policy for the White House. How much influence did he have on George W. Bush?

Are they serious? They're pushing this as news? And Fox I'm sure will be considered biased if they say anything nice about the man who just died. Imagine if Fox said something like... "Well you know, you're looking at a gal... Hillary Clinton, who has a lot of influence on communism in America. IN FACT, my producers just handed me a page from stormfront.com and they say she's the devil reincarnate. Just how evil is Hillary?"

So you're saying that I think it's ok for Fox to biased, but not MSNBC and I'm crying?

For of all, I'm laughing. Second of all, never have I supported Fox's bias. If Fox had done something this batshit insane there would also be a thread about it. Never have I seen FoxNews quote the Onion and try to push it off as fact.

Oh come on, this is obviously just a stupid mistake from a ditzy anchor and her stupid producer who tried to save face by playing the site off as something real.

There's no huge conspiracy here IMO.

Never claimed a conspiracy. But the fact that the producer is visiting and quoting whitehouse.org instead of some other site shows his affiliation. And the fact that while on the site he was unable to recognize it was a satire site and took the stories for truth shows how warped his political views much be or how incredibly stupid he is.

It's true they goofed. But they didn't mention it until they were called on it. And she still said whitehouse.org is pushing this Falwell story, even though it's not whitehouse.gov. I took it as as if they were saying whitehouse.org isn't .gov, but they didn't say it was a parody, joke site... to the viewer who doesn't know it sounds like a legitimate organizational site.

Oh give me a break, I think you're reading far too much into a simple mistake in order to make a point about MSNBC

It's no shocker that they would have tried to cover up their mistake, it's a pretty big one and I'd bet that guy wont be working as a producer for much longer after this

I think when a reputable news outlet makes a pretty big mistake it's their responsibility to issue a correction, not a cover-up.

I translated the video verbatim. After the quote in the OP it goes to a screen that says "Now to try to go for the save"

And they show her trying to backtrack the statement..

Stupid reporter: I said whitehouse dwot, dot org. That is what I meant. This is not the official Whitehouse website, that's whitehouse dot gov. But this one whitehouse dot org is uh, pushing the fact that Jerry Falwell has influence in the Bush party.
Matthews: That sounds like a nasty shot to me.

She never said it was a pardoy site. She just said it wasn't the official whitehouse.gov website, but instead was a whitehouse.org website which was pushing the fact that... etc. Very misleading to someone who doesn't know what whitehouse.org is. It sounds pretty official to me if I had never been there.

All that happened was she quoted whitehouse.org (btw I remember when this was a porn site) at the behest of one of her producers in reference to Falwell's influence in the Bush whitehouse, and then obviously someone realized their mistake and she tried to cover her ass

Even though the website was bullshit, his influence was not.

I do as well, but again, it's not as big of a deal as you're trying to make it out to be, I certainly wouldn't try to use it as proof of liberal bias or some other wacky conspiracy theory

At least it was a mistake instead of something blatant
