Parkway crash victim was prone to seizures

Authorities are investigating whether a Lower Township man's history of seizures caused his fatal, high-speed, fiery crash into a Garden State Parkway toll booth last week.

Bernard King, 52, had a history of seizures and apparently had a seizure only a few hours before the 8:30 a.m. accident, according to State Police and King's mother, Edna King

In NJ we have EZ Pass.. a lot of states use it or a similar program. It's basically an RFID tag in your car that is assigned to your account so you can drive through tolls. The lanes on the left are typically EZ Pass lanes. The manned toll booths for change/receipts are usually to the right. So we can be pretty sure there was nobody in that booth he drove into... thankfully. And thankfully it was a slow time of day so there was no backup of people waiting to pay the toll. It's amazing how fast the car went up. He must have still had his foot on the gas or something.

Also the officer was on the scene in under 10 seconds. They usually have state police checkpoints at tolls or a car hanging out. But that wasn't enough for the officer to have a chance at getting the man out.

And I just assumed he was a cell phone driver before I read about the medical history?

The phone freaks are all damn lucky for the lack of stationary solid objects that can't move out of their way on the road!

Every state has different laws when it comes having epilepsy AND a driver's license. Part of the burden is put on the primary physician's shoulders to decide whether or not a patient's condition could have any affect on their driving capabilities. My little sister has epilepsy, as well as one of my best friends, who does have a driver's license. She had to prove essentially that it had been at least 12 months since her last seizure and her condition had been monitored regularly.
