Which way do you feel they would shift their support if they educated themselves more fully on the issue?

I think many would want us to take a more middle of the road policy when it comes to Israel, especially if they realized that doing so could tremendously help our horrid PR in the Middle East.

I think, regardless of what you think of Israel, you have to acknowledge that our nearly carte blanche support of whatever they do is one of the main reasons that Arab nations dislike the United States.

If Isreal surrendered all their weapons and renounced violence forever every last isreali man, women and child in the Middle East would be slaughtered withing 48 hours.

If every Muslim did the same there would be peace in the middle east for centuries.

That is why I put my faith 100% behind Isreal and why i'll defend their right to defend themselves, even pre-emptively, to my last breath.

I'm not saying I disagree with your assessment of what would happen, however, because both options you've presented are never going to happen, I think we need to do what serves our interests the most.

Ultimately, a middle of the road policy does the most for us in terms of ensuring we help Israel defend itself from aggression, allow it to protect ourselves, while doing what we can to placate arab populations who are critical of our policies.. by ensuring that our support for Israel isn't carte blanche.

I do not believe muslim extremists will ever make any dilleniation between "pro isreal west" and "middle of the road west". Their terror attacks on Europe demonstrate this clearly. I also do not believe that muslim extremists will relinquish their hold on muslim society without interference from the west.

Therefore I see no reason to cater to the interests of the muslim portion of the middle east.

That, of course, is without even mentioning how solid and reliable an ally Isreal has been to us and how completely immoral and irresponcible it would be for us to try to take a "middle ground" between the isreali nation attempting to survive and its immediate neighbors who want nothing more than to see Isreali rivers run with blood.

Extremists never will, but that's not who we should be aiming to please. We should be wanting to please the majority of the Muslim populations, who are not extremists.

I don't think extremists have a hold on the majority of Muslim society, I think that we have to recognize there are going to be differences of opinion about Israel regardless, and that their culture is vastly different than ours. That doesn't make them extremists who are willing to blow people up, though.

I don't think simply because someone is and has been a good ally that it means you can't criticize them. I think that's part of the problem.
