| babies without sex I have been thinking to myself lately about things like the shark, which mysteriously gave birth to a young shark with no male "activity". Not to long ago we had a lizard, i think it was a komodo dragon or something. There has been no documented cases of either of these ever happening before. These animals were supposed to have sex before they reproduce. They are not wired any other way which would allow asexual production. Can one safely assume that the virgin mary was another case of the hammer head shark or komodo dragon? Except back then there was a huge lack of knowledge on how nature works, and clearly we still have unanswered questions. Since they had an extremely primitive level of knowledge on how those types of things work, clearly it was a miracle and only god could have knocked this girl up without having sex. She would be the only documented case in human history, just as this hammer head and the lizard are the only cases in their species history. | ||||

| I suppose it is possible. But it is far more likely that she had sex and got knocked up... or the whole virgin birth thing is just a standard religious theme that was added to the Jesus story to make him more godlike. Considering all the other virgin births in mythology, that is where I would put my money. | ||||

| The virgin birth is really only in one of the gospels.. chances are it's not the least bit historical, but another part of the mythical archetypal history into which Jesus was molded (since almost everyone important was said to be of virgin birth or some sort of half-deity). | I know they can fertilize a egg in a sterile procedure in a hospital but I doubt very much it can happen out side a hospital. Sperm and egg are pretty fragile things I believe. | ||||

| My cousin got pregnant without having sex. They are a married couple and there was no penetration but she ended up getting prego anyways. It can and does happen. My cousin tells me more than I ever wanted to know.... too much information. | ||||

| It is only gross if you touch yourself inappropriately after hearing these stories. Though, Albert Einstein and Rudy Guilianni both married cousins. | ||||

| Just FYI: 1. this has still never been observed in a mammal of any kind. 2. It is an impossibility for a female to immaculately conceive a male in any species. | ||||

| My point being that even an animal that can reproduce asexually cannot produce an animal of the opposite sex. They don't carry the genes. The asexually reproduced child is essentially a carbon copy of the parent. There's not even any recombination process. | ||||
