Why the FCC crackdown was a bad thing

Sad that we could all learn something from watching these shows but are now subject to censorship...all because of a breast, something LESS pornographic than a girl in a bikini doing a basic model pose

There was something on A&E just a little bit ago about breasts. I think it's hilarious that they star out the nipples of all the pictures, even the animated ones, but show it all when they're getting marked up at a doctor's office.

I always thought that was a huge overreaction. I mean, I can understand you might not want your kid to see something like that, but afaik it was still an accident.

Even if it wasn't, it's stupid to me how sexually repressed this nation is compared to the rest of the world. Like the human body is something we should be ashamed of or afraid of or pretend doesn't exist underneath the clothes we all buy from China.

The US: ZOMG! A boobie! We're goin to hell!

Europe: Naked gameshows are grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr8!

I mean, I think things need to come with warnings and whatnot obviously, but I think as long as there is an adequate ratings system, the onus of responsibility should be on the parents, and not on the government acting as some sort of unwelcomed babysitter.

As far as words, I think it's ridiculous. You're only offended if you let yourself be based on some ridiculous social conditioning. If you took a group of kids and told them the words meant different things, no one would care. It might be crude or offensive to some, but let people decide if they want to see it rather than some governmental agency making a decision about whether or not something is appropriate for me to watch for me.

Motivez, just so you know, it sounds like you support the government taking an Information-only approach as opposed to a policing approach. If that's the case, I agree with you I think that's how it should ALWAYS be, no matter the sector (that's federal, mind you... I do not advocate the abolishment of police )

As a parent, I can honestly say Janet jackson's boob did not bother me.

If a child, even as young as 4 or as old as 12 gets freaked out by 2 seconds of Boobage, then that kid has problems.

It's called being repressed from the brainwashing that sexuality is evil and dirty.

What is that all about anyways?!

My son isn't even three yet and he told me he has a girlfriend. What's the big deal with a kid seeing a boob? Moms have boobs. So do grandma's. It's not like it was porn or something.

I think we need some form of content management on public airwaves. Cable is another story. I think the FCC has gone overboard, but I think there is a need for such an organization.

It's all about religion teaching people that sex is dirty and evil and any nudity is something to be ashamed of. Pretty fucked up when you think about it

I don't know why it's like that.

I was raised in a very liberal, totally non-religous home and even I find that I have some level of sexual repression. For some reason this society has embraced violence and shunned sex.

Sure, it's called ratings. Let people take responsibility for what they are watching. Let parents take responsibiltiy for what they allow their children to watch.

With the technology today (vchip, being able to lock out programs based on tv raiting), there's NO good reason the government should be censoring anything like this.

If something is X-rated, say so. If I want to watch it, fantastic. If I don't, or I'm offended, I won't tune in. This "bqqhqq, everyone has to make shows that don't offend me or my delicate sensibilities" movement is so fucking ridiculous

I don't think we need content management, I think we need content INFORMATION. If you are made well aware of a programs content, you can then make better decisions on whether or not to watch it or allow your children to watch it.

Like I've said 100 times and will say at least 100 more, an informed decision > *. But what's really important is leaving the decision to the citizen, not a government body.

Serial. It's not hard to take responsibility for what your kid watches. My kid says HA-ha like Nelson, and I know where he got it from. Isn't that the point?

I agree the V-Chip is great, but even then someone has to make place the ratings and they have to make sure the stations adhere to them and their programming schedule.

The Janet Jackson thing was an accident (right?), so I mean, it's an exception.

So, in that case, I don't mind a delay for live television to ensure the ratings they give the content are accurate.. but other than that, they can go suck a [censored] IMO!

Well take the Superbowl. We all thought we were gonna see a few hours of football and some funny beer commercials. Instead we got someone's boob. That would have changed the "rating" yet it aired on national television. So what do we do then?
