I do not believe they have the constitutional authority to do that.

Something definitely needs to be done, there have already been 108 murders in Baltimore this year.. that's incredibly high.. but this is the wrong way to go about it.

Increase the use of the death penalty. I'm guessing they'll run out of murderers long before they run out of murder victims.

That has not worked in the past, there is no reason to think it will work now.

The death penalty has never been an effective way to reduce murder rates.

Better policing is.

The death penalty is not an effective deterrent against crime

I believe I read they're up to 125 murders now.. I agree with Kytro that there needs to be better, more effective policing.

It's not a punishment either, really. However since the point of the death penalty was raised in relation to the high murder rate the implication was it would help reduce that rate which is unlikely

Law-abiding citizens need to start protecting themselves.

If law breakers want to shoot and kill each other... by all means, go ahead. Saves room in the jails and decreases the risk against the law abiding

Chances are pretty high that these AREN'T law abiding citizens getting killed. So your whole process of arming everyone that isn't breaking the law isn't going to work.

That's silly. If a murderer is dead, he cannot kill again. If he gets out in 5 years or 25 years, he can kill again. Even in prison, he can kill another inmate (which is still murder).

That said, I don't expect a potential murderer to contemplate more seriously his actions based on a stiffer penalty. The penalty is only if you get caught, and most murders have every intention of getting away with it.

How is the solution of "more policing" supposed to work? The police are not Superman and Spiderman. They're there to drink coffee, eat donuts, pull people over for speeding, and draw lines around the bodies of victims. They are not required to magically appear between you and a bad guy when a crime is about to take place. People need to own up and start protecting themselves.

I'm not sure how many of these crimes are committed by previously convicted murderers. Has there been a large number of these murderers released from prison over the last few years?

Most criminals do.

I though they were there to enforce the law. That means, you know, investigation and then creating strategies to solve the problem.

No I wouldn't expect they should have to do that.

It more than likely would CAUSE more problems than solve any.

What's silly is most murders are not re-peat offenders unless they are a serial killer and still not caught.
