Hillary is getting dangerously close to talking about communism again

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070529/...nton_economy_3

By HOLLY RAMER, Associated Press Writer 57 minutes ago

Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton outlined a broad economic vision Tuesday, saying it's time to replace an "on your own" society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity.

The Democratic senator said what the Bush administration touts as an "ownership society" really is an "on your own" society that has widened the gap between rich and poor.

"I prefer a 'we're all in it together' society," she said. "I believe our government can once again work for all Americans. It can promote the great American tradition of opportunity for all and special privileges for none."

That means pairing growth with fairness, she said, to ensure that the middle-class succeeds in the global economy, not just corporate CEOs.

"There is no greater force for economic growth than free markets. But markets work best with rules that promote our values, protect our workers and give all people a chance to succeed," she said. "Fairness doesn't just happen. It requires the right government policies."

Clinton spoke at the Manchester School of Technology, which trains high school students for careers in the construction, automotive, graphic arts and other industries. The school highlighted one of the nine goals she outlined: increasing support for alternative schools and community colleges.

"We have sent a message to our young people that if you don't go to college ... that you're thought less of in America. We have to stop this," she said. "Our country cannot run without the people who have the skills that are taught in this school."

Beyond education, Clinton said she would reduce special breaks for corporations, eliminate tax incentives for companies that ship jobs overseas and open up CEO pay to greater public scrutiny.

Clinton also said she would help people save more money by expanding and simplifying the earned income tax credit; create new jobs by pursuing energy independence; and ensure that every American has affordable health insurance.
She has a history of making extremely socialist/communist statements and I think she needs to go easy on it in the future if she plans to run for president. You can't win the presidency without nabbing a strong percentage of independent voters. She's going to be scaring them away.

This kind of stuff is going to follow her:
YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

All the talk about the common good, etc. She needs to back off a bit if she wants to win the presidency. She's coming out too strong. She was doing better when she was reserving herself and waiting for the polls to tell her what to say. Now she's just shooting herself in the foot.

Remember the biggest phrase in the constitution?

WE THE PEOPLE

followed by "promote the general welfare"

I swear, if some government wrote that today, you'd call them communist

Support for a Free Market and communism can not exist in anyway whatsoever

And, as I've said before, socialism is when workers vote for their bosses and the people own their businesses

the "omg communism" card could have been used against FDR for the New Deal, Truman's Fair Deal, Ike's interstate highway program, JFK's move to over-ride state's rights, LBJ's Great Society...basically every American President for about 50 years of, 40 of it during the height of the Cold War

com·mu·nism /ˈkɒmyəˌnɪzəm/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[kom-yuh-niz-uhm] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
2. (often initial capital letter) a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.
3. (initial capital letter) the principles and practices of the Communist party.

Sorry, Hillary comes NO WHERE CLOSE to saying ANYTHING like that, your title is simple misinformation

A communist re-interpretation of the constitution doesn't make it a correct one.

James Madison stated that the “general welfare” clause was not intended to give Congress an open hand “to exercise every power which may be alleged to be necessary for the common defense or general welfare.” If by the “general welfare,” the Founding Fathers had meant any and all social, economic, or educational programs Congress wanted to create, there would have been no reason to list specific powers of Congress such as establishing courts and maintaining the armed forces. Those powers would simply have been included in one all-encompassing phrase, to “promote the general welfare.”

Good post. Excellent rebuttal.

Some people welcome the idea of the US having a communist type government. I was surprised when I heard this and I think it's GREAT ammo to show how she is leaning towards a communist goal in the 2008 election and Republicans and Independents can crucify her with it. I hope she keeps these types of talks up.

Yeah, that's why you'd be wrong...

I think you and style read some post from some other thread

I must have missed the one where I said the US Constitution beat Marx and Hegel in regards to inventing communism

please re-read the definition of communism, style in particular

Conflating the terms communist & socialist for the good of board 'action'?

OTOH perhaps the aim was to highlight how her detractors will characterise her remarks & the point was from the pov of a politico-hack-gunslinger?

either way, its all fair enough IMO, as if this matters, ..., now wheres my infraction point for not addressing the post(s)?

She has a history of making statements that are socialist and/or borderline communist. When she decided to run for president she started curbing that speech and tried to come off as being more moderate. However, it seems she's on her way to slipping back into her old habits.

The alternative would be "to each as he so deserves" type of attitude. IMO the common good will be more popular in the long run...
