| This month has already been the most bloody since 2004 in Iraq for US soldiers BAGHDAD - Ten American soldiers died in roadside bombings and a helicopter crash on Memorial Day, the military reported Tuesday, making May the deadliest month of the year for U.S. troops in Iraq. In other violence, five Britons were kidnapped Tuesday from an Iraqi government office in Baghdad, driven away in a 19-vehicle convoy filled with men in police uniforms who headed toward a Shiite stronghold in the capital, the British government and an Iraqi official said. The American deaths raised the number of U.S. forces killed this month to at least 112, according to an Associated Press count assembled from U.S. military statements. 10 U.S. troops killed on Memorial Day - Conflict in Iraq - MSNBC.com Last time more US soldiers were killed in a month was around 130 back in 2004...and that doesn't take into account those who may be killed today, tommorow or the day after that... Sectarian violence about the same level as last month, from the chart from my previous post, you can see attacks are about the same... So, as we enter June, the 5th(or 6th) month of the surge, we can call it "a failure so far" without much of a doubt, Baghdad violence may have decreased but it was already decreasing in December, many people fled the city or went to more fortified areas...30-50 bodies a day is still horrible for one city The "Ramadi turnaround" is by anti-shia forces who in the past committed atrocities against the Shia for Saddam and undoubtably killed hundreds of US forces and even more Shia, and will continue to do so So, we're getting to June, and it's supposed to be a "bloody august" according to Bush...looks like all we really have is July for things to turn into a miracle...some plan | ||||
