Plame was a covert agent at the time off the leak

Plame was ‘covert’ agent at time of name leak - Politics - MSNBC.com

WASHINGTON - An unclassified summary of outed CIA officer Valerie Plame's employment history at the spy agency, disclosed for the first time today in a court filing by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald, indicates that Plame was "covert" when her name became public in July 2003.
There goes that bogus argument that she wasn't covert at the time of the leak.

So will the Republicans on this board begin screaming for justice, or will they just avoid this thread all together and still act as if Bush and company is looking out for the best interests of our military and intel communities?

I thought it was an anti-Bushite that released her name. That was found out way last year sometime, right?

Yup. Here it is. I even made a thread about it and was told by our left leaning friends that this story was old news and it didn't matter anymore

So an anti war/anti Bush person leaked Valerie Plames information....

Bush and Company? If the person knew she was covert and did it to hurt her he should get prison time. If it was an accident considering she told everyone and their pet poodle that she was covert, I would say let it go. At the very least if her job has been harmed, she should be able to take the person to court and try to get damages.

I really fail to comprehend this idea that she was famous before being 'outed', she lead a completely double life, pretending to work for a company that was really a front for the CIA.. she had several covers, one she told her friends about working for another branch of the Government, and then her official cover for traveling overseas as a private sector business woman..

I mean, the details of her work are STILL classified because she was covert the entire time..

David Martin, of CBS News, who interviewed Armitage about that public disclosure, reports as follows:

In July 2003, Armitage told columnist Robert Novak that Ambassador Wilson's wife worked for the CIA, and Novak mentioned it in a column. It's a crime to knowingly reveal the identity of an undercover CIA officer. But, according to his own recently-publicized accounts in the media, Armitage didn't yet realize what he had done.
So, what exactly did he tell Novak?
"At the end of a wide-ranging interview he asked me, 'Why did the CIA send Ambassador (Wilson) to Africa?' I said I didn't know, but that she worked out at the agency," Armitage says.
Armitage says he told Novak because it was "just an offhand question." "I didn't put any big import on it and I just answered and it was the last question we had," he says. . . .
"I told them that I was the inadvertent leak," Armitage says. He didn't get a lawyer, however.
"First of all, I felt so terrible about what I'd done that I felt I deserved whatever was coming to me. And secondarily, I didn't need an attorney to tell me to tell the truth. I was already doing that," Armitage explains. "I was not intentionally outing anybody. As I say, I have tremendous respect for Ambassador. Wilson's African credentials. I didn't know anything about his wife and made an offhand comment. I didn't try to out anybody."
. . . . Armitage says he didn't come forward because "the special counsel, once he was appointed, asked me not to discuss this and I honored his request."

According to Armitage, as interviewed by Martin and reported by CBS News online, "[w]hen Libby was indicted in October 2005 on charges of obstruction of justice, perjury and lying to investigators, Fitzgerald said Libby was the first official to discuss Plame in a conversation with New York Times reporter Judith Miller. . . . After Fitzgerald's comment about Libby at a news conference, Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward reminded Armitage that he had made a passing comment to him days before Libby's conversation with Miller. That meant that Armitage, not Libby, had been the first to mention it to a reporter, and he quickly informed the prosecutor of that recollection."
Armitage's role doesn't negate the fact that the Administration ordered Libby to out Plame to reporters in an effort to discredit her husband.. it's shameful and indefensible.

Not really

As most of us have long suspected, the man who told Novak about Valerie Plame was Richard Armitage, Colin Powell's deputy at the State Department , an assiduous underminer of the president's war policy.

.....

The disclosures about Armitage, gleaned from interviews with colleagues, friends and lawyers directly involved in the case, underscore one of the ironies of the Plame investigation: that the initial leak, seized on by administration critics as evidence of how far the White House was willing to go to smear an opponent, came from a man who had no apparent intention of harming anyone.

That would in fact be Armitage and is it in anyway clear he knew she was covert at the time or anybody in the Bush whitehouse for that matter? But everybody seemed to know she was CIA! If you read the document (which I link below) you find her COVERT statis amounted to occasional overseas trips with either an alias or cover backround using her real name. And that was over by August 2003 when her position changed. That was preplanned and not a result of the leak.

This is the best part of the document:

"Ms. Wilson was a covert CIA employee for whom the CIA was taking affirmative measures to conceal her intelligence relationship to the United States."

I guess those measures did not include Ms. Plame telling just about everybody she worked at the CIA and wouldn't it be great if you gave my husband this job!

Her cover was lifted in December 2003 as a result of the leaks and further rolled back to the date of the leak (July 2003) in February 2004. They later declassified her statis as of January 1 2002 for the court record. But they are not about to declassify details af how such covers were used "the cover methods employed to protect Ms. Wilson and other covert CIA employees." That is standard sources and methods and does not in anyway reflect on her own behavior or how many people were told she worked at CIA as an analyst without that fact being classified information.

Who signed PNAC and was his foreign policy adviser.

Regardless of his stance on the invasion of Iraq, he was one of the Presidents people.
