When 70% of the country is christian and the majority of christians do have a problem (regardless of to what degree) with harvesting embryos from fetuses... it makes it so explaining things from a moralistic standpoint is a valid stance. The fact that he is such a strong proponent of adult stem cell research shows he is obviously very well educated on both lines of research - much more educated than anyone here bashing him, or even those few defending him.

He's going to point out that 70% aren't in favor of harvesting Embryos which has nothing to do with the ban.

That sounds much better.
Now throw that on a poster with that picture of the aborted fetus hand holding the finger and we'll get out there and educate people about stem cell research.

Proof that I said they were? I said 70% of the country was christian. That was a bit of a guess, but i'm almost positive the last census was around the mid 70 percent.

That's a bit extreme, but I think it's a bit hyprocritcal to say that the "education" of embryonic stem cell harvesting should handily avoid discussing the fact that they are harvested from fetuses. That's a knowledge gap I doubt a large number of americans can bridge on their own.

The knowledge gap is implying that embryonic stem cells are being harvested from fetuses that would otherwise grow to be happy little kids running around a field chasing butterflies..

when the reality is they would be harvested from frozen fetuses that the parents donated in the name of science..

That's not much of a better alternative. Where did those fetuses originally come from? A fetus farm? Or the union between a man and a woman? I'm not defending or attacking, simply presenting the issue in a way that most christians would see it - if they even knew that embryonic stem cells came from fetuses in the first place.

I don't understand the mindset (christian, not particularly yours) there..

the embryos that would be used are going to be disposed of. Instead of disposing of them without any chance of benefit, some parents would like them to be donated to science before they are disposed of.

the end result is the same, where does the morality come in. why are there no huge christian groups pressuring the president to stop the disposal of leftover embryo's from fertility clinics?.. why is there no outrage at fertility clinics in the first place.

it just comes off as hypocritical

Lack of awareness, more than likely. That and it's only a VERY VERY extreme fringe group that does the protesting at abortion clinics. The rest of us Christians simply disaprove of the practice and wish for an alternative, either than the child was adopted or wishful thinking that the dumb slut didn't get pregnant in the first place.

abortion clinics?? where is that coming from?

by fertility clinic I meant like "help you to have kids" clinic.. not abortion clinics..

My thing is - good for Bush for not throwing money at embryonic stem cell research. Adult stem cells do the SAME thing, only they don't result in fatal tumorous growths, and they don't require being harvested from a questionable source.

If you have 2 means to the same objective and one of them is superior in EVERY way - why waste money on the other? That's how the investors see it, that's even how the guy that DISCOVERED embryonic stem cells sees it. Why is it so bad for Bush to see it?
