| Perhaps we ought to think along the lines of what we know from other countries...for instance how many Famous Russians or Germans or Chinese do we know? Lenin, Stalin, Marx, Hitler, Mao...getting harder to remember more.. How about in antiquity when Rome was dominate or Greece or Egypt? Caesar, Augustus , Ramses, Plato..again very few It seems to me with the exception of Ancient Greece, the only people we remember are the ones that cause major upheaval and chaos: massive wars, genocide etc or they were the ones that clearly changed the course of events for their country and the world: Caesar and the death of the republic, Marx and the Specter of Communism. We don't much remember the inventors, the business people, activists and most politicians So what will mainstream history remember a 1000 years from now? Washington as the leaders of the rebellion and the founder of the empire (at least this is how I think history will record it if America is not around), a footnote about our civil war, some brief notes about what THEY consider the golden era of our nation and what caused its downfall. The majority of our legacy will be about how we handled world problems, you dont hear much about local Roman government, you learn about all its wars and civil wars. And since they will write a 1000 years from now, who knows how they will precieve us, maybe as an enlightened civilization that spread peace and freedom or a tyrannical empire that tried to control and influence the world | ||||

| I think one big thing we will be remembered for is stripping the royals of their power over the people. The British started it with the Magna Carta and we finished it by our democracy with an elected president. Until then Royals had ruled every where. It was a big thing in history. | ||||
