The Edwards theme for Monday was “building one America by rewarding work, with proposals that include an initiative to help ensure that all employees have at least seven paid sick days a year, with pro-rated leave for part-time workers. He also would raise the minimum wage and increase the ability ...

| Edwards wants to reward hard work.
![]() In the same story he wants to punish schools that are doing well by busing their kids to schools that aren't doing well. This one strikes a cord with me because our district wants to do the same thing. Our kids were going to have to be bused over an HOUR to go to a different school system. The school they go to now is a 5 minute bus ride. Luckily they changed the boundaries and my kids will stay at the same school.

| As a person, I bet he's a great guy, I really believe that. He is very charismatic, driven, he really believes what he says, and he seems to be a loving father and husband. The problem is that he's also a huge enemy of the free market | ||||

| I have no issue with him allowing people to organize themselves. Organized labor is afterall, a product of the free market. If free market people have a problem with people forming unions, I think it shows a certain level of hypocrisy. I do not agree with shipping kids to schools which perform poorly, simply on performance. But I do not have a problem with ethnically diversifying the school. It provides cultural exposure that some of the kids would not get otherwise. If there is a problem with that, sign up for a private school. I am on the fence with minimum wage. I think if we really solved the illegal immigrant problem we wouldn't have to worry about a minimum wage, because that group would not be artificially keeping those types of wages low. Paid sick days should be worked out between the worker/workers and their employer. If the union contract picks that. whatever. | ||||

I have no problem with unions, people can unionize all they want to, but that doesn't mean it is the answer.

| In those industries that were not unionized... I don't see the widespread unfunded liabilities that I see in the auto industry... deals made by unions with automakers that simply did not make economic sense. | ||||
